I needed a better solution for storing them which is space saving, has easy access, and keeps them out of direct sunlight. The top section of my desk can be pulled out and rotated to make the bench top area much larger.!
When compact though, there’s a narrow gap between the two sides which is a perfect place for hanging some mats.
So, with a couple of holes drilled, two screws and a hook, I now have them stored away in a much better position, with about 75% of a shelf now freed up to make better use of.
I could have used a Command style hook instead to avoid permanent damage, but I knew it was going to be a permanent addition, so was happy to use screws.
Let me know of any unusual space-saving storage ideas you use. It can be any item, it doesn’t need to be cutting mats.
Heyyyy! It’s been a little while since I’ve seen you. I hope all is well with you!
I have 14 12x12in mats and 6 12x24in mats hanging on an adhesive hook on my wall, under my studio window, behind my cutting machine cart. The adhesive is surprisingly strong. Before I got my cart and heat press stand, this past Christmas, I had them hanging from the side of the old desk I was using as a heat press stand. My cart doesn’t have anywhere that I can hang them, so I decided the wall was the best place.
I’ve had them (24in) for nearly 2 months and haven’t even used them. I had a specific project in mind when I bought them, and was like, I need these, NOW! Yet, they’re just hangin around, waiting on me to do something.
Oops, I forgot to add in my original post that I also found a little space for my A3 self-healing cutting mat.
I added a small tab to the front edge, which is just a tiny scrap of transfer tape, to make it easier to pull the mat back out when it’s needed.
