📅 Friday Fun | Are You a Planner Person?

I am not a planer when it comes to creating only in my head.
But at work as a teacher I wrote a plan for every week.

I am a Project Manager for an Engineering Group that designs large scale mining equipment. Being a planner is essential to completing a 3-5 year project and having up to 50 engineers contributing in different aspects. I don’t use an actual planner, as I would need multiple across the years but I do use notebooks that I engrave something on the cover and neon colored sticky notes that can move from one page to another if I don’t get it done. In my personal life, I made a family calendar for myself to keep track of birthdays and anniversaries. Mine has 35 dates on it. I got an order for one this past weekend that has 71 dates, then I got a frantic text on Monday morning because the woman forgot about the dogs so I added 4 paw prints. Forgot to add the date on so I had to run these again but they turned out so cute!
Going back to the crafting injuries from a couple weeks ago - yes, I sanded my fingers again. This time I actually drew blood

I love the little rulers and calculators and etc. you can get for attaching to ring binders.
Yes, I am so very easily pleased!

The whiteboard card is such a clever idea

Basically, every project starts with planning.
It all begins with an idea: what am I making, for whom, or for what purpose.
Then comes the design phase, which usually takes a lot of time until the design matches exactly what you had in mind.
And then it’s time to cut, glue, and so on.
In the end, you have a project that matches your vision exactly.
Life itself is really all about planning and organization, whether it’s for appointments, grocery shopping (deciding what to cook and buying the ingredients), and so on.
I don’t think you can organize your life well without planning. I haven’t made a planner myself yet.

I use the Cozy app on my phone to keep all my schedules and lists for picking up supplies and keeping my timelines. I couldn’t live without it!

I have been a list maker my entire life and that rolled into using planners at different points in my life. When I worked as a hotel housekeeper I kept a mini Happy Planner in my bag to keep track of my hours, the number of rooms I cleaned each day, and any issues that I ran into. Then back in 2019/2020 I needed a visual look at the month to keep my physical therapy appointments on track so I picked up the classic size Happy Planner. There were things I liked about it, and things I hated about the different layouts that had tried, so I decided to take my favorite parts and build my own planner in Canva.

Right now the week on one page with notes is the best layout for me, and I love the colors I chose. I also made my own monthly spread as well as trackers for different areas in my life.

I don’t always use the planner, but then there are weeks that I use so it so much I have to add separate lined pages to keep up with the comings and goings of life.

What I absolutely love about making our own planners is being able to create what works best for us! I LOVE what you created, but if this was sitting on my desk the anxiety would be off the charts with how busy the pages are. lol

A LONG TIME AGO, IN A FACTORY FAR, FAR AWAY

Well, it was actually 19 years ago and the factory is just 1.4 miles from my house!

In my role of Packaging Technologist, I used the Franklin Covey system of time management, as did all ‘staff’ grade employees in the company. The system is based around the idea that you organise your time/resources around the most important and urgent tasks (your Big Rocks) which allows all the lower priority and urgency tasks (your Small Rocks) to slot in around them.

The planners were so very well organised and very professional, if a bit plain looking by today’s standards.

Since being forced to leave work due to disability, I no longer use planners, but try to manage my time with the calendar, reminders, and alarms on my iPhone and iPad.

Unfortunately, my reality is that it’s almost always pain and fatigue that dictates how much I can do and when I can do it! :smiling_face_with_tear:
