I’m working on a fun t-shirt — a kind of inside joke from my family that’s a bit hard to explain outside of it, especially because it involves a Spanish play on words. But I’ll give it a try…

My dad and I always get into this playful argument that somehow comes up in everything we do together. I’m a perfectionist, and he’s more of a MacGyver type — he can fix almost anything with a piece of gum and a rubber band. But… finishing touches aren’t really his thing. His fixes usually look a bit rough around the edges.

That’s why, when my sisters and I were little, we used to call him MacGyver to praise him, but also Howard the Duck to tease him (duck in Spanish also means clumsy). Whenever someone points out that one of his “solutions” looks kind of sketchy, he always says things like: “Who cares?! You can’t even see it…” or “Who cares?! It still works…”

Lately, he doesn’t even say that anymore — now he just goes “Should I explain it, or is it obvious?” :joy: So I’ve been wanting to make this t-shirt for him for a while. It says “¡Y qué más da?!”, which means “Who cares?!” in Spanish, but I’ve shortened it to “IQ+Da” — that way it’s less obvious and keeps the joke in the family. It also plays on the idea of IQ+, like saying these fixes, even if messy, are actually clever.

The design includes two hands I drew making a gesture that matches the expression. And underneath, there’s a mix of Spanish and English: “Equipo chicle pato Howard” (Howard Duck Chewgum Team), because my nephew — who’s totally inseparable from his grandpa — insists on being part of his club :joy:

Now that the weather’s getting warmer, and with Father’s Day coming up, I’m planning to give him and my nephew the shirt as a gift — so he can just point to the message instead of saying anything at all!
