Wow, the watermill is absolutely amazing.
Wow these buildings are very out there and different. Modern marvels
This is the Milwaukee Art Museum. The roof opens and closes, almost like the wings of a bird. The Museum sits on the shore of Lake Michigan and is stunning in the sunrise and sunset.
I was trying to chose between on of my favourite buildings in Madrid, but I guess Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia (The Holy Family) in Barcelona is the most amazing building in the world.
It has so many details (both in the outside and the inside), that is is impossible to grasp.
It creates infinite views, depending on the point of view and lightning.
Construction began in 1882, and I don’t know if it has a completion date yet. Things aren’t done that way anymore, so I’m glad they’ve kept up the necessary pace.
Any Gaudi’s project is OMG, but this is the OMG of the OMG!
Barcelona‘s cathedral is a marvel of construction. I wasn’t aware in hasn’t been completed yet.
Just wondering, what is the Madrid building that you love?
IMO the big difference between Madrid and Barcelona is that Barcelona has absoutelly stunning buildings, which is not so in Madrid, and I mean as stunning as that marvel. However, Madrid is charming everywhere, it is a complete catalogue of wonderful faccades and roofs built from IX century. Iit is a city to live it, to walk through it, that’s why it is hard to explain or show with some pics. In the other hand, in that sense, Barcelona has little more than the Gothic neighborhood.
Anyways, let me try showing some examples…
Only Gran Vía, has at least 4 of my favourite buildings, starting from Metropolis
Telefónica, not a wow at first sight, but it is
Carrion, more know as Schweppes building in Callao Square, surrounded by more amazing buildings, not a wow at first sight, as Cine Callao, a Cinema Theater from 1929 and Palacio de la Prensa (Press Palace, 1924)
Then it comes Plaza España (Spain Square) with Torre España (Spain Tower) as an example of many more
But that is just in Gran Vía (Great Way). Then you have all the Madrid of the Austrias with the Royal Palace, the Opera Palace (I can´t show them all haha) and Plaza Mayor (Main Square), which is now busy with the Christmas flea market as it is a Renancentist multipurpose square.
It’s arcs lead to the most wonderful streets to walk in different neighbourhoods of different nature. One of the most known is Arco de Cuchilleros, (Bow of Cutlers) with the Cuevas de Luis Candelas (Luis Candelas Caves), Public enemy number one of 19th-century Madrid, hero or villain, reality or legend…
I can go on and on… we have an authentic Egyptian Temple, Debod’s Temple
One of the few complete Egyptian monuments that can be seen outside of Egypt, the temple was originally built in the Nubian region of southern Egypt, on the banks of the Nile River. Egypt donated it to Spain in 1968 as a token of gratitude for the assistance provided by Spanish archaeologists in UNESCO’s international campaign to save the Nubian monuments, which were threatened by the construction of the Aswan Dam. The temple was dismantled stone by stone and reconstructed at its current location in Madrid.
Atocha Train Station with its Tropical Garden inside.
Museo del Prado (all the museums, Reina Sofía, Sorolla’s…), the whole Paseo de Castellana, the river and its Bridges… there’re jewels every way (to mee) and a huge story behind.
And that is the problem here, non of the is wooow, the most stunning building in the world, but it’s jus that I have to stop and I only started to show some kinds.
So come on, visit and live and enjoy Madrid but don’t ruin it, please ![]()
Sorry, I love Madrid, and you asked ![]()
All of these are stunning
Wow, there’s so many beautiful and amazing buildings there. I can absolutely see why you’re so passionate about Madrid. The scale of the construction projects is mind blowing. Can you just imagine the cost if these were built now?
I’d love to go someday to witness them for myself.

Madrid is a welcoming city and has always been, so we’d be happy to welcome you ![]()
I love modern buildings, but there’s something about stone and brick we should not loose.
I remember that old barn (?) you posted recently, there’s something of living History in these buildings you can touch. There’s a wispering, and it is not from ghosts
but ancestral talking.
wow! Looks like something in a fairytale!
