🔤 Friday Fun | What’s the Meaning of Your Name?

Hello, everyone! Happy Friday!

My actual name is Kimberly, however, I have always been called Kiki (all my grade school report cards say Kiki). My brother couldn’t say Kimmy when I was born, it always came out sounding Kiki, so that’s what everyone has called me ever since (except my hubby who always calls me Kim). Funny story, in high school I decided to try going by Kim… one day a friend called our house asking for Kim and my mom told her there was nobody by that name at our house! She had forgotten my real name, ha!!!

My name is Mary Elizabeth. My mom calls me by my middle name. My family and close friends call me Libby—an abbreviated version of Elizabeth. I love my name.

If you know me outside of my family, close friends, or after my elementary school years, I’m known by my first name.

When my mom named me, she said she didn’t realize it was the exact name of my great-grandmother—my dad’s maternal grandmother and her dad’s sister. She found out after naming me. I still feel honored.

I have cups, tumblers, lap covers, and a Bible cover that I’ve decorated with my name on them. I love customized items. That’s what makes adding my name to my items even more fun.

I have 5 older brothers. I was supposed to be named Dawn but when my Dad called home to tell the boys, their first reaction was anger because I screwed up their attempt at a full family baseball team. One then expressed how he had a classmate named Dawn that he did not like so they regrouped and named me Donna.

My birth mother gave me this name while I was in the hospital with her. At 5 days old she turned me over to my adopted mom and she kept the name instead of having it changed.

Kimberly is a primarily feminine given name of Old English origin, meaning “Cyneburg’s field” or “from the meadow of the royal fortress” . Derived from a place name, it combines Cyneburg (“royal fortress”) and lēah (“woodland” or “clearing”). It is associated with strength and nobility

I make a lot of personalized stuff. I have an embroidery machine, a laser, the I craft, a brother cutter, a circuit, etc etc …. What I really want is a DTF printer …. Maybe someday!

Well this is fun! Tomorrow (April 25th) I’d my birthday so let’s go back 38 years. My dad had left for work with my grandpa from. They lived in the same house at the time. My understanding later that day was supposed to be the last doctor’s appointment before my entry into the world. I decided there was no time needed …. So my mom thinking she needs to go to the bathroom I decided to make my entrance into the world. I was born on my grandparents bathroom floor and being the first granddaughter on my dads side I was named after my grandma she never went by Judith and I have not as well but we shared the full name first middle and last (till name changed after getting adopted).

My first name came from my sister-in-law. She liked the name Sonnia (son-ya) but wanted it to be different so she added Per at the beginning. So my first name is Personnia. My middle name is Burnett(common last name) because I was named after one of the nurses that helped my mom so much with me at the hospital. Apparently she’d just walk all around the hospital showing me off to people. Very different times back then.

Not the clearest pic but it’s little baby me. :joy:

Nice to meet a fellow Kimberly. I always went by Kim but whenever I wrote my name it was Kimberly. What is your middle name? Mine is Ann. My grandmother was the only one allowed to call me Kimmi Ann.

My name is Estibaliz, a name chosen by my paternal grandmother, and I love it because it’s not very common. It’s of Basque origin, deeply rooted in Álava (Basque Country), and linked to the Marian devotion to Our Lady of Estibaliz, the patron saint of the province, whose sanctuary is located an hour away from my city. The meaning is uncertain; the main theories suggest it derives from the Latin aestivalis (“summery”) or, more commonly, from the Basque phrase eztia balitz (“as if it were honey”), referring to the sweetness of the Virgin’s image and a certain legend. It could also come from Etxebarritz (“new house”).

People usually call me Estibaliz, although friends and family call me Esti for short, and sometimes Estitxu. They often spell it wrong because, as I mentioned, it’s uncommon; according to statistics, there are 7,915 Estibaliz in Spain. I don’t have a middle name; here, two surnames are officially registered.

This is a great discussion. It’s been so interesting reading the stories behind everyone’s names.

David is a very old name, going back to biblical times and King David. It’s from the Ancient Hebrew word for ‘beloved.’

My mam wanted to call me Maurice, after my dad. How pleased am I that my great-aunt talked them out of it and suggested David instead. If only they’d asked for her advice on my middle name, Frederick!

Frederick has a Germanic origin meaning ‘peaceful ruler.’ So, I guess I’m the beloved king of peace!

My name is Samantha, and its meaning comes from two roots.
From the Aramaic side, it carries the same meaning as Samuel — “told by God” or “heard by God.”
From the Greek anthos, which means “flower.”

So I like to say:
“Samantha — the flower whom God has spoken to, and the one who listens.” Or “God’s little listening flower by the small stream” as my middle name is Brooke — which means small stream.

I was originally supposed to be Joshua as my mom was told I would be a boy. When I came out a girl, they had to think of something quickly. My grandmother wanted to name me Ruby Rose, but my mom didn’t like that, at all, and apparently started crying. Eventually, it was suggested to name me Samantha, by my uncle, inspired by Samantha on Bewitched — one of my all-time favorite shows. My mom agreed, but with the exception that no one was to call me Sam. Of course, they called me Sam, with my mom being the first one to do so.

Edit: Yes, I’ve made many personalized crafts with my name and other’s.

My 1st name is

Thrystyn

As you can see it’s a bit different from other names especially since it has no vowels. I think it was derived from Christine but since Christine is a common name, they decided to change the spelling to make it unique. They decided on this because my Dad’s name was pretty common and when he was applying for a working visa, he had a similar name with an ex-convict so the process took longer because he needed to prove that he is a different person. They didn’t want us to get into a similar problem so all 3 of us siblings have no vowels in our 1st and 2nd name. And I decided to do the same with my 2 gremlins

What a great and original idea. Is it pronounced similar to Christine, or will I fall over my tongue trying to say your name properly?
