Getting a true black color

Just received my HTV Ront DTF printer. It is using a better printer software and riin program for prints. But I am noticing that the black will have streaks of green or blue? How do I make this a true black? I have never used any of these programs before and there is not much on YouTube for the better printer app

Hello, @theresatmcgraw!:smiley: Welcome to the community! We’re happy you’re here! Congratulations on receiving your printer!

Let’s see if @Lizzie_Golob1 can tell you how to get true black with your printer. I’m sure it probably has something to do with the ICC profiles. However, I don’t have that machine, but she does, and should be able to assist you.

Wishing you lots of luck with your new printer!

Hi! Congratulations! I would pull ink out the dampers to get them flowing good. Run several head cleans. I have a maintenance video under dtf information.

I have ran at least 50 head cleans in the past 3 days.

If the steps Lizzie suggested don’t work, here are some more things you may want to try:

Here are the primary reasons for this issue:

Clogged Printhead (Most Likely): The black nozzle is clogged, meaning only cyan, magenta, and yellow are printing. Perform a nozzle check, followed by head cleanings (up to 3 times) to clear the blockage.

Incorrect ICC Profile/Driver Settings: The software is not interpreting black correctly. Ensure you are using the specific ICC profile provided by HTVRONT for their inks and film.

Air in Ink Lines/Damper: Air bubbles in the damper or ink lines block the black ink from flowing. Check the ink lines for gaps and perform a damper cleaning if necessary.

Improper “Rich Black” Settings: The design may be using an RGB black instead of a CMYK black, which can cause the software to create a “composite” black that looks greenish or blue.

Damaged Dampers or Capping Station: If the dampers are old or the capping station is dirty, the suction power might not be sufficient to pull the black ink through.

Steps to Take:

  • Run a Nozzle Check: Confirm if the black (K) line is missing.

  • Clean the Print Head: Run head cleanings via the software.

  • Check Ink Flow: Inspect lines for air bubbles.

  • Update Drivers/ICC: Reinstall the correct HTVRONT ICC profile.

Setting up the ICC profile for your HTVRONT DTF printer involves three main stages:

downloading the file, installing it into your operating system, and assigning it within your RIP software (like RAIN or AcroRIP).

1. Download the ICC Profile

Locate the Profile: Visit the HTVRONT Official Setup Guide and look for the “Install ICC Profile” section.

Unzip: The download will be a ZIP file. Extract it to find the file ending in .icc or .icm.

2. Install the Profile to Your Computer

Windows:

Right-click the .icc file and select “Install Profile”.

Alternatively, manually copy and paste the file into: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color.

Mac OS:

Open Finder and use the “Go” menu while holding the Option key to find the Library folder.

Navigate to Users > [Your Username] > Library > ColorSync > Profiles and paste the file there.

3. Assign the Profile in Your RIP Software

The printer will not automatically use the profile; you must select it in your printing software.

  • Access Settings: Open your RIP software (e.g., RAIN or AcroRIP) and go to Color Management, Media Settings, or Job Properties.

  • Select Output Profile: Under the ICC or Color tab, choose the HTVRONT profile you just installed from the dropdown menu.

  • Set Rendering Intent: Usually, “Perceptual” or “Relative Colorimetric” works best for DTF to maintain color accuracy.

  • Disable Conflicts: Ensure “Color Management” is turned off in your design software (like Photoshop or Illustrator) so it doesn’t conflict with the RIP software’s settings.

Pro Tip: If your blacks still look blue or green after setting the ICC profile, double-check your nozzle check to ensure the black ink channel is actually firing.

Hi there, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check whether the nozzle check is normal.
  2. Increase the Eclosion percentage to around 80% to 90%.

If the issue still cannot be resolved after trying the above, please contact support@htvront.com and note that you have already completed these steps :slightly_smiling_face:
