Hand Engraved Gin Glass

I wanted to share a huge gin glass I hand engraved with my Dremel in 2019.

Having my LOKLiK Crafter back then, with the ability to create a vinyl or Mylar stencil would have saved so much hassle. I used to have to print the design onto paper and then cut the stencil by hand with a scalpel or snap-off blade knife, then used sticky tape to apply the stencil. It would be virtually impossible to persuade the paper to conform to the shape of the glass. Then the task of actually engraving the design using my Dremel would take hours. Nowadays, it’s simply a case of letting etching cream do the work through the stencil. Alternatively, an etched glass effect vinyl or, as I do most often now, a beautiful combination of a matt black/white with a gloss holographic/chameleon coloured vinyl is used.

This particular glass was a complete rush-job. My wife remembered that evening that she’d previously bought the glass to be engraved for our daughter’s birthday the next day. Needless to say, it’s far from perfect and has a couple of mistakes. :grimacing:

Very beautiful. You’re right on how quick those crafts can be made compared to other technniques. I’d love to have and try a dremel, though.

Thank you.

The Dremel is a very useful and powerful little tool. It’s too heavy to use on its own for precise engraving but you can also get a pen style attachment which makes it much easier.

Wow, I’ve just seen that the price has almost doubled since I bought mine!
