When Lightburn searches for Laser, it scans & then doesn’t find the laser to connect.
I have not used light burn but serch it on here theirs a few post that should be helpful.
Hello, @GNic. Welcome to the community! We’re happy you’re here.
If LightBurn scans but fails to find your iEngrave laser, the issue is typically a missing CH340 driver, incorrect COM port selection, or a faulty USB cable. Ensure the laser is powered on before launching LightBurn, use a direct USB connection (no hubs), and manually select the correct COM port in the Laser window.
Here is a troubleshooting guide to fix the connection:
- Install/Reinstall Drivers: The iEngrave likely uses a CH340 serial-to-USB converter. Download and install the latest CH340 drivers.
- Check COM Port & Device Manager: With the laser on, open Windows Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT). Look for “USB-SERIAL CH340”. If it appears, note the COM number (e.g., COM3) and select that same port in the LightBurn Laser window dropdown.
- Verify USB Connection: Swap the USB cable for a high-quality one, and plug directly into the computer, avoiding USB hubs or extenders.
Manual Setup: If “Find My Laser” fails, select “Devices” in LightBurn, choose “Create Manually,” select GRBL, and choose the correct COM port.
- Close Other Software: Ensure no other software (like EzCad or laserGRBL) is open, as only one program can control the laser at a time.
- Disable USB Power Saving: In Windows Device Manager, right-click the USB port/serial device, go to Properties > Power Management, and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
If any of these work, it would be greatly appreciated if you let us know, as it may help someone in the future. If it doesn’t, please, also, let us know, so we can move forward with other troubleshooting techniques. Good luck!
What software do you recommend?
I have done all my projects in the LOKLiK idea studio
Hi and welcome to the community, @GNic! I’m curious—are you connecting your iEngrave to a Mac via USB? Just wondering.
If you’re on Windows (which is what I personally use for my iEngrave projects), you should have no issues connecting the machine or running LightBurn, as long as the driver is installed correctly.
From my own experience, the LOKLiK app—both mobile and desktop—tends to give the best performance because it’s designed specifically for the machine. One thing I really appreciate about the latest version is that it can engrave and cut in a single task, similar to what LightBurn offers
