yes hello, me again. i installed my loklik in lightburn and its fantastic, but when i went back into istudio after closing lightburn, the parameters were all wrong for the laser engraver and it actually crashed into the side of the laser bed and locked itself. so i had to turn everything off, it still wont find the right parameters for istudio, and i wanted to be able to use both of the software. its almost like the laser is reading the whole workspace upside down. i dont want to have to re install istudio everytime i want to switch between software
Hi @helenhannum, I’m sorry to hear you are having issues with your iEngrave.
Maybe @Cory_Barger or @rinsky can shed some light on your current problem.
After doing some research myself, the only thing I can suggest is maybe turning off your iEngrave before switching between programs.
i will try that. I will let you know how it goes
Hi there, @helenhannum! Thanks for checking back in.
That definitely sounds frustrating, especially after everything was working smoothly in LightBurn.
When you switch between LightBurn and IdeaStudio, the machine can sometimes hold onto the last set of parameters it received, which makes IdeaStudio read the workspace incorrectly — exactly like what you’re describing with the flipped or “upside‑down” behavior.
A few things you can try before reinstalling IdeaStudio:
• Fully power‑cycle both the machine and your computer to clear any leftover LightBurn settings.
• Reconnect the device inside IdeaStudio so it forces a fresh parameter read.
• Check your origin settings — LightBurn and IdeaStudio use different default origins, and that mismatch can cause the machine to slam into the rails.
• Make sure the device profile in LightBurn isn’t overwriting the home position in a way IdeaStudio can’t interpret.
You should be able to use both programs without reinstalling every time, so this is likely just a settings conflict rather than a software issue.
If you can, share what your current origin and device settings look like in both programs — that usually points straight to the fix.
I actually have a video tutorial where I use the LOKLiK IdeaStudio desktop version and LightBurn side by side, but I do the steps in the opposite order from what you’re doing. In my recording, I start in IdeaStudio, and when I’m done, I fully exit the app by using the “eject” or “disconnect” option to safely remove the laser from IS. After that, I refresh my desktop so the connection resets cleanly.
Since you’re using the same USB cable for both IdeaStudio and LightBurn, it’s completely fine to unplug it from your computer for about 10 seconds before switching software. Then plug it back in when you’re ready to open LightBurn. That quick reset helps the machine release the previous software’s parameters so the next program can read it correctly.
Hope this helps and please keep us updated! ![]()
Just a quick note: When I recorded that video, the LOKLiK IdeaStudio desktop version didn’t yet support sending cut and engrave in a single task the way LightBurn does. With the recent update, you can do it now — but keep in mind the commands are reversed compared to LightBurn.
its working perfectly now. thank you.
Thank you for the update! Enjoy your new iEngrave machine — we can’t wait to see the projects you share under Latest Inspiration topics - HTVRONT | LOKLiK Community.
Thanks, great to hear ![]()
