Project | Bedside Table Dream Poem Felt Mat

Now that cutting felt with the Crafter is quite under control, many ideas come to my mind for small things I can make to bring more coziness into my home. One of the first things I wanted to create is something very simple that I have been missing for a while: a small mat to place my evening infusion or a glass of water on the bedside table, inviting sweetness into my nightly dreams. I have several ideas to make the bedroom more comfortable for sleep, but also more connected to the magic of the night, the moon, the stars and sleep in its widest and most poetic meaning. This project gathers it all.

For this piece, I wanted to use two pairs of verses from a poem by the Spanish poet Federico Garca Lorca, an icon of academic culture but, above all, of popular culture. His poems have often been the basis for songs, even from the time when Lorca himself was writing them, and also later on, as in the case of “La leyenda del tiempo” (The Legent of Time), set to music by one of my favorite composers, Kiko Veneno, blending rock, jazz and flamenco for the flamenco singer Camaron de la Isla.

The verses say:

El sueño va sobre el tiempo, flotando como un velero…
El tiempo va sobre el sueño, hundido hasta los cabellos…

The dream goes over time, floating like a sailing boat…
Time goes over the dream, sunken up to its hair…

(I swear it lost half its poetry on the translation XDD)

These lines speak about the contrast between dream and time, how dreams float lightly and freely, while time feels heavy, dragging us down. For me, this poem perfectly evoke that delicate moment before falling asleep, when thoughts drift and reality slowly fades away. I encourage you to look for the complete poem.

This small felt mat has become a very special piece on my bedside table, and from here, many more ideas are already coming to my mind. There are still so many cozy things I would love to create with felt, not only for the bedroom, but for other corners.

I really love these. The use of the light blue on top of the dark really works. The dream poem and images used also bring everything together.
