After finishing the first two decorations, I was already imagining a wonderful Christmas tree, but it needed a strong final touch, so I thought of creating a precious star for its apex. When I uploaded the Christmas assets to Idea Studio, I missed having a star that could work for this purpose, but I did not want to create a completely new shape for the decoration. It could feel out of place, so I preferred to make a more elegant version of the same one. That is how I uploaded this new version of the origami star, with a sinuous and slightly arabesque decoration, while still keeping the idea of a star.
The crafting itself is very simple in theory, cut, fold and assemble. I also wanted light to be an important part of it, so I decided to make it in two layers. A bottom layer in vellum paper that lets the bulbs shine through, and a top layer made with a beautiful quality paper, Mi Teintes by Canson, a double sided fine art paper with honeycomb and fine grain textures, 160 gsm, in the colour Fleur de Lys. Gorgeous and very easy to shape. And luckily so, because folding a small piece with intricate cuts and double direction folds right at the edge really required some care and love.
The result is spectacular, so it was absolutely worth it. The contrast with the vellum paper gives it a luxurious ivory look, and with the lights on it can look truly stunning. All that is left is to glue one layer to the other and add a small cord, or whichever system we choose to place it on the tree.
How does the whole set look together? Stay tuned, I will show it very soon.
