This handmade card was created as a sympathetic yet lighthearted gesture after my husband experienced an accident at work that left him missing the tips of three fingers. Designed to raise his spirits, the card blends humor with heartfelt encouragement.
Using my Loklik Crafter, I designed and cut out a hand-shaped card from sturdy cardstock. I then used the Crafter’s draw function to write the message inside, ensuring the words carried both warmth and wit. To personalize the design, I carefully trimmed the tips of the fingers on the left hand with scissors—mirroring his injury in a playful, symbolic way. The front reads “Still one of a kind…” while the inside carries a longer message of love, resilience, and faith, reminding him that strength, humor, and heart remain fully intact.
The card is both a keepsake and a testament to the power of handmade creativity to comfort, uplift, and connect.
Materials & Process:
Cardstock (hand-shaped base)
Loklik Crafter (cutting the hand outline and writing the message with the draw function)
Scissors (to clip finger tips for personalization)
Thanks so much for your kind words, @BellethehowtoGuru & @Judi_B. It was certainly jarring when he called me & told me he cut his fingers off. I freaked out & cried because I thought he just had to be in so much pain. He was calmer than I was, though. My heart was broken for him, but he stayed in high spirits. I was happy that he could laugh about it, but was worried about his mental health for when reality finally set in that he was missing some body parts. He had to have emergency surgery, of course, & he’s not too thrilled about how the doctor did the surgery. It’s been just over 4 months, and he’s still recovering. It certainly has limited his abilities, & his doctor said that it may actually start to get worse over time. Luckily, though, it was his non dominant hand, so he can still write & do his job—for the most part. However, it has taken a little bit of a toll on his mental health, now that he has realized there are some things he can’t do & finding out it’ll get worse didn’t help. He’s still pushing through, though, and I’m proud of the way he’s dealt with it all. I told him I’d probably have not handled it so calmly and rationally. I would’ve been—and still would be—freaking out from the beginning!
