Project | Valentine's Treat Box

Project Overview:

Everyone loves getting a little sweet treat for Valentine’s Day! Come along as we make a little treat box you can create in LokLik IdeaStudio for free!

Project Materials:

Cutting machine: LokLik iCraft
Mat: HTVRONT Light Grip mat
Cardstock:
80 lb or equivalent for the box
Foil cardstock in red (optional), could also use a patterned paper
Vellum: Red semi-translucent
Template: LokLik IdeaStudio Library
Craft Glue

Preparing the Design:

Open IdeaStudio, select Library on the left side, search 3D Valentine’s Day Box and select the design you’d like and click on the “+” (plus sign) to add it to your canvas.

Next, resize your design to accommodate your size paper and how big or small you’d like the box to be at the end. To resize, select CMD A or Control A to Select All.

NOTE: Do not unlock the size, this will allow the whole design to be resized at once and in proportion.

Then change the color of your design to the color of your choice by selecting the Design Tab on the right and then the Fill option, which will bring up your color choice where you can select a color or

Enter a Hex code to be an exact color.

To add a little color to the top tabs:

  1. Select your whole design (all layers), right click and select copy or use Ctrl C to copy and then right click and select paste or use Ctl V, to make a duplicate of your entire design before proceeding

  2. Select a square on the left from the Shapes menu

  3. Right click on the square and select “send to back”

  4. Position the square behind the top tab exactly where you would like to slice

  5. In the layers panel, select the square and the box layers

  6. Select combine on the top menu and then select “Slice”

This will slice the tab off, you will have 2 layers, the black (original layer) and behind it the gray layer. You can delete the gray layer.

Notice, the tab that was previously on your design is now gone, this is why you duplicate the design to avoid losing any piece or part that you still need or want.

Then, select the black layer from your slice. Select Offset in the menu, and then select Internal Offset, the default is External Offset. Slide the bar to the right to the size you’d

like or type in the number in the top right corner and select apply. This will leave you with your original layer and a smaller layer behind it. Separate the layers and then delete

original. Then change the color and move to the top tab, once it’s the right size, Ctl C and Ctl V to make a duplicate and place it on the second top tab.

To add text to your box, select the Text option on the left hand side. A text box will appear. Select the box and then select the font on the right, if wanting to change from the default.

After selecting the font, choose the “fill” for the color of the text.

Type the message in the text box, duplicate if needed for a second box to retain the font and color choices.

Position the text boxes on the design.

Next is the cutting phase.

Preparing to Cut all of the elements:

  1. Select Make in the upper right corner

  2. Connect your device if it is not already connected

  1. Select Foil in the options under My Device, then update Material Load Type if necessary

  1. Select Foil Transfer Tip, Bold, Medium or Large

Note the Foil Transfer Housing is Black, you’ll see the scoring stylus inserted into the housing

Foil Housing:

  1. Select the group to be foiled

  2. Select the Material Parameters

  3. Click Add to Task

For the next groups follow the same steps as above, remembering to update to Cut, Score, Foil or Draw as needed/appropriate.

The final task list will look similar to the below:

  1. Start by placing the cardstock on the LightGrip mat, then covering in the appropriate area with foil, ensuring that the foil is tight and secure.

  2. Insert the Foil Housing along with the correct tip into the iCraft machine

  3. Once the housing is installed and mat is loaded, select start on the appropriate task

  4. Once the Foil task is complete, remove the tape and foil, change the housing to the Scoring Stylus, load the mat and select “start” on the task list

Scoring Housing and Scoring Stylus:

  1. When scoring is complete, replace the Scoring Stylus and housing with the cutting housing and blade, then select the appropriate task to cut the design

Cutting Housing:

  1. Unload the mat, carefully remove cardstock and move to the next task of the Vellum, and finally the foil cardstock or patterned paper.

Now it’s time to Assemble:

  1. Lay out all the pieces that have been foiled and cut

  2. Using craft glue, apply the 4 pieces of red vellum on the inside of the box, over the open heart shapes

  3. Attach the red foil cardstock or patterned paper to the 2 top tabs

  4. Starting in the upper left of the design, work clockwise to fold the cardstock at each scoring line

  5. Then fold in half along the middle scoring line and glue the tab on the left to the far right side, making sure it’s an even line, no overlap

  6. Bring your design into a square, insert the tab on the bottom flap into the main body of the square

  7. Cross the tabs at the top in the slot

Enjoy the lovely treat box you just made!
