Hey everyone, it’s Tuesday again!
This week we’re talking about colors — the heart of so many crafts.
Colors have their own language. They set the mood, show personality, and make every craft feel unique.
Some crafters go bold and bright, some love soft neutral tones, and others mix everything to create their own style.
So we’re curious, how do you use color in your crafts? Do you stick to your favorite shades or try new combos each time? Do you plan your palette or just go with what feels right in the moment? And if you had to describe your color style, what would it be?
Share how you play with colors and what kind of “color crafter” you think you are.
We’ll randomly pick 3 replies to receive 100 Cheers this week.
See you below
Sticking to Analogous colours is a safe bet as they share a similar hue. I always use these when I am ink blending on my crafts.
Complementary colours are when you want your project to pop with colour. These can be sometimes a little tricky to pull off.
My colour style really depends on the project I’m working on. Like bold colours would look silly on an elegant piece you know. But if I had to pick a colour that represented me, it would have to be red
My favorite colours, Red, Purple, Black and White. I know the last to aren’t technically classsed as colours but are called shades. But these colours I use most of the time and are all over my business branding and most of the time in my hair hahahaha.
Oh, thank you so much for the 100 cheers! I enjoyed reading everyone’s stories. Much love and many blessings to all who either participated in the conversation and/or read my entry. Here’s to a very creative week to each and everyone of you! Keep being awesome!
For this topic I’d say I’m pretty comfortable with neutral colors and I’ve never worked with too vibrant of colors because I fear I won’t get the combinations right. I usually have to google colors that compliment the color I’m working with to stay on the right track if I had to describe my own color pallete is probably deep dark and moody lol mostly hunter green, navy blue, brown, black I wear a lot of that in my own closet. Mostly warm colors is what I gravitate too as well
Thank you for the congratulations! I love your go-to colors. I’m currently working on finishing up a reversible tote bag that I sewed, over the weekend, using the purple and yellow color scheme you’ve shared with us, today. Will be sharing once I’m finished. The colors do complement each other so beautifully.
I love all colors! It can sometimes be difficult to choose just which colors I want to use for my projects.
I tend to try new combos each time, since I love all the colors.
Sometimes, if I’m working on a sewing project or doing HTV on fabric, I’ll plan out my palette ahead of time. Other times, if I’m doing a painting, I’ll just go with whatever feels right in the moment.
If I had to describe my color style, I’d describe it as bright and cheerful. I love spreading love, light, and joy, and bright colors certainly help with that.
How I play with colors: I don’t follow strict rules. I follow delight. I reach for whatever hue sparks joy in the moment, whether it’s a bold neon, a soft pastel, or a rich earth tone. My color choices are intuitive, playful, and mood driven. I love mixing unexpected combinations and letting the colors tell their own story.
What kind of color crafter am I? I’d say I’m a color embracer. I welcome every shade into my creative space. I don’t limit myself to a signature palette, I let the colors choose me, I guess you could say. Whether it’s faith-infused art or playful humor, I use color to amplify emotion, spark curiosity, and invite connection. I believe every color has a place, and I love discovering how they dance together.
sometimes it’s hard to choose colors and you cannot always simply use your favorites. Good thing there are already online resources that can suggest great color combinations.
But personally I love the sea hues (blue, green, purple, pink, yellow) that’s why I ended up with Loklik cutting machine, because of the teal blue color
This is the perfect topic for me at the moment. I love purples and lately I’ve been using a lot of yellow. I tend to play around with colors but stick to requested colors for orders. Sometimes I’ll send them different ideas and let them choose. Right now I’m working on a requested light green shirt. I was told to decide on the vinyl and I’m a little stuck. I try to plan my colors ahead of time and lay out several options to see what looks best. Right now this is my placement so far for my current customer.
I’m a full-spectrum kind of crafter—color is my playground, and I choose my palette based on my mood or the project I’m about to make. But if we’re talking favorites, let’s give a big spotlight to the greens . You already know I went full-on green mode when I cut the covers for my DreamBox tote bins—every shade had its moment, from mint to moss to deep forest.
When I’m quilting, I don’t overthink it—I grab a bundle of fabric rolls that speaks to me and let the colors lead the way. One of my favorite examples? That quilted tote bag I made a couple years back. The combo was chef’s kiss—a perfect harmony of hues that still makes me smile.
