🎙️Talky Tuesday | Let’s Talk Fonts and Your Favorites

Hello community!
It’s Tuesday again, so let’s open up another craft-life chat.

Fonts are one of those small choices that totally shape the mood of a project.
Some people love bold, chunky lettering that stands out right away.
Others prefer thin, delicate fonts that look soft and detailed.
And sometimes different projects just ask for different vibes — cute fonts for kids, elegant fonts for weddings, playful ones for gifts, clean ones for labels.

Also, a tiny fun fact from my side:
the font we use on our Talky Tuesday posters is actually called Lazydog lol.
It just felt fun and friendly enough for these weekly chats.

So I’m curious:

:fountain_pen: What kind of fonts do you find yourself using the most?
:books: Do you match certain fonts with certain types of projects?
:gift: Do you have any little “font rules” you follow… or happily break?

Drop your thoughts below.
We’ll randomly pick 3 replies to receive 100 Cheers this week.

See you down there :sparkles:

this is such a pain for me hahaha… so many options and often times it takes me hours just to pick a font I like… I am yet to pick a font for my brand until now… it has been in my to do list for so long…

I think about the theme and project that I am doing. will I be cutting vinyl? or just printed project? those influce my choice in fonts

:black_nib: Fonts… we all have a love–hate relationship with them!
:books: I definitely match different fonts to different projects — but each craft brings its own little adventures.

:thread: Embroidery fonts are the trickiest for me. Taking a chance on a new one and hoping it stitches out right is always a gamble. When you find a digitizer who makes clean, dependable fonts… you hang on tight!

:art: Crafting fonts are usually fun — until you run into Mr. Boney, the font that refuses to weed. And of course you only discover that after you’ve pressed it.

:fire: Laser fonts might be my favorite, but the more delicate the better… until the sander gets involved. I love those handwritten styles, but they do not love being sanded. Nothing like breaking a piece right at the end and having to burn another one!

Fonts definitely keep things interesting — and I’m always learning which rules to follow and which ones to break!

This is my problem. Choosing font pairs. I take a long time choosing since there’s so much choices

Love them both! 🩷 We still haven’t cut our own tree—planning to head to the farm this weekend so I can hang my hand made laser cut ornaments as well.

Congratulations, @Donna_Burbey, @Judi_B, & @ZannX! :partying_face::tada::confetti_ball:

I agree with @prinsesaian and @timmytation—it can take forever to land on the perfect font(s) for a project. I’m a total font lover, but sometimes I’ll spend days just narrowing down the right ones. I tend to pair bold serif fonts with thin sans serif fonts, or mix thin scripts with bold sans serifs for contrast. And I have to admit—I’m obsessed with drip fonts and any style that has real personality.

Decorative fonts are definitely my favorite, but I’ve learned to balance beauty with practicality. Some intricate designs look amazing on screen but can be a nightmare to cut on a machine, so I always test and choose fonts that I know will cut cleanly without issues. For me, it’s all about finding that sweet spot between style and functionality—fonts that make a design pop while still being maker-friendly.

It’s most definitely a love hate relationship! This part takes me the longest!

I lean toward the edgy fonts that make a bold statement. I have maybe a half dozen that are my go-to’s but will use others, depending on the project and how it needs to be constructed.

I feel you and I heard you on that one! It’s a real thing, though! I can totally relate…

Me too. It takes me hours to choose the right ones. There is a girl in TT (I think) that does the font pairs. I screenshot them. But of course then I forget when I’m doing a project. :woman_facepalming:

So true for the intricate designs. If not cut properly, they’re a nightmare to weed

The screenshot gets lost in all the images saved plus you forgot that you’ve taken note of them

My suffering with scripted fonts…
The problem with fonts is it makes you ADDICTED you can’t have enough and the more you have the long time it needs to choose :face_with_head_bandage::face_with_head_bandage:
And the problem also is not choosing a beautiful font but choosing the font that a specific initial looks good at. Some fonts are really pretty but the S looks like an alien :joy: some fonts are so pretty but they write the m, n as small letters.
My biggest problem is the I and J in most scripted fonts they look identical and the customer says that’s not an I and I am like uhhhh :confounded::confounded::confounded:
And then there is the Y which also is written as a small letter which made me have a fight with a customer and ended up filming videos to show her that no matter how I type it on the keyboard and even when Caps lock is on it is still written as a small letter :weary: and then I told her please don’t order from me again :joy: and she bacame a regular customer lol:rofl:

I go to some that are bold or Sami bold the most I like some of the more fun fonts that have a boldness to them cause they cut and show more. Finding. Cursive like one can take a bit sometimes it’s depending on what the project is but I will try 3 fonts and see what I feel fits for what I am making usually.
