When I was younger, I used to watch my mom and aunties knit sweaters.
It looked so slow and detailed, but they always seemed so relaxed doing it.
Growing up, I started to understand why. Some projects feel comforting exactly because they take a bit more time.
It made me wonder about the way we all enjoy crafting.
Some crafters love quick projects you can finish in one sitting, like a simple shirt or a small sticker sheet.
Others enjoy projects with more steps, like a multi-layer paper shadow box with lights inside, tackling a batch of items, or working on something that needs more time to adjust and put together.
So let’s talk about it:
Do you prefer fast projects that give you instant results? Or do you enjoy projects that let you slow down and take your time? What makes your choice feel relaxing or fun for you?

honestly it depends on my mood… I never learned how to crochet but I am very good and fast with cross stitching… I made a lot when I was in elementary up until high school… sometimes it took just a few days… sometimes months hahaha it depends if I had the budget to buy threads… I was still a student then. my skills in stitching were then used to make handmade plushies… I enjoy the planning and pattern making. I take my time and pick needed materials and how to execute. now when I do my crafts for my store like name tags and vinyl stickers I enjoy doing things in batches. seeing them all done gives a great sense of accomplishment.
It depends on my schedule and if I’m hyper. If I have tons of available time, I’d definitely go for faster results and quick crafting. However, if I have a hectic schedule, I just want to slow down because it’s too much. But if I were given tons of time, I’d definitely do slow but awesome projects.
I really enjoy projects that let me slow down and take my time. It gives me the chance to make sure everything is just right, and I’ve learned that rushing often leads to mistakes. Taking it slow makes me more intentional and thoughtful with every detail. What makes it relaxing is doing something I truly love — I find peace in the process, especially knowing that what I’m creating will bring joy to someone else. The fun comes from putting all the pieces together, watching it take shape, and seeing the person’s reaction. That moment of surprise or happiness makes it all worth it.
For me it would depend on my mood and my schedule as well. Sometimes I like to take things slow and chill. But there are also times I want to see the output quickly. Sometimes things suddenly come up so we need to be flexible
I usually prefer fast projects—especially with my laser. I love seeing that instant result and the satisfaction of a quick, clean finish.
But when it comes to something like a handmade crochet blanket for one of my grandbabies, that’s a whole different kind of joy. That’s where I slow down. Each stitch is a little wish and prayer for their life to be great, and a reminder that my love is always covering them. Those slower, love-filled projects feel just as relaxing, just in a different way. And mean so much to me.
I like to try and plan some so I can do multiple projects at a time. I may cut the vinyls for 4 projects together but just finish one then go back the next day and use the cut part for the next thing I want to make. My medical stuff changed how I craft. It’s not always easy to sit for long so doing things in a group and working at a speed that works for me. Other times I do a small things I can finish but I may have spent a few days on the design getting it how I want. Theirs very few super fast projects.
I definitely enjoy the slow process. Most of my projects are custom and I like taking the time to really think thru exactly how I want it to look and to be sure all the details match my vision.
I like fast projects because I can focus my brain on them but I’ve kinda learned that sometimes even the “fast projects” sometimes take a bit of time. I’ve had moments when I think I’m gonna finish a project quickly but then I decide I’m gonna make a few tweaks, my machine starts acting up, or I’m stuck looking for a tool I can’t find. And often with slow projects since I know it’s going to take me a while I take my time and if an error occurs I can give myself that time. So it depends on my mood but I think slow projects are my favorite in the long run because I can take my time and it can be very therapeutic at times too
I’m like everyone. Really depends on my mood. Sometimes when I’m in a hurry I need a quick fast project to be done quickly and that job well done satisfaction is welcoming. But other days when it’s rainy and cold outside, I like to snuggle on the couch with a cup of tea and draw or knit. Other days I have so much ambition and tackle huge involved intricate projects because I wanted a challenge that day. That’s the really great thing about crafting; it’s so verse that it can suit your needs and mood on that day.
