Thanks for the shout out @Samantha_Bryant. Your post is very informative but I also wanted to give my advice for a new beginner.
Big welcome to the community @infoshahbaz87
If you’ve just unboxed your LOKLiK iCraft (Cutting Machine 2) or you’re still staring at the box wondering where to even begin — you’re not alone. So many crafters tell me they feel overwhelmed by all the choices, tools, materials, and project ideas. It’s completely normal.
But here’s the good news: you don’t need to learn everything before you start. You just need one small, simple first step.
Start With the Basics
If you haven’t already, my Cutting Machine Craft Basics video is the perfect place to begin. It walks you through the essentials in a calm, beginner‑friendly way so you can get comfortable with the different types of materials and learn some of the craft terminology that you will hear throughout your crafting journey.
Pick ONE First Project
This is the part most beginners skip — and it’s why they get stuck.
Instead of trying to learn every feature or scrolling endlessly for inspiration, choose one small, practical project to start with. Something like:
- Labels for your Tupperware
- Pantry stickers
- A simple name decal
- A basic vinyl design for a notebook
Once you’ve picked your first project, research only what you need for that one thing. Suddenly the learning curve becomes a straight line instead of a mountain.
Why This Works
When you have a clear goal:
- You know exactly what tutorials to watch
- You learn the tools and settings that actually matter
- You build confidence faster
- You avoid the “too many choices” overwhelm
- And most importantly — it becomes fun instead of stressful
Crafting should feel exciting, not intimidating. Starting with a single project gives you direction, momentum, and that satisfying “I made this!” moment that keeps you going.
Final Thoughts
Don’t pressure yourself to master everything at once. Take your machine out of the box, plug it in, watch some of the tutorials @Samantha_Bryant listed, pick a simple project, and just start experimenting. Every crafter you admire began exactly where you are now — one small project at a time.
If you ever feel stuck or unsure, you’re always welcome to ask questions. You’ve got this, and I’m cheering you on every step of the way.
