Why do cheers disappear?

So, I’ve noticed that my cheers fluctuate. Yesterday, I had 778 at 12:23 pm, by 6:24 pm, I had 806. I login this morning and I have 748. So, I thought they were depleting because I wasn’t commenting or liking all day long. So, I tried to comment more, and it tells me I can’t comment more than 3 consecutive times. Along with that and only being able to like so many posts during a specific time, how does anyone actually accumulate cheers? What’s the point in winning cheers if you can lose them the next day? I understand that I will be able to comment more as I gain trust, but this doesn’t seem fair to the new people, as those who have been here longer will, of course, be in the lead as they can comment and like more. I’m not looking to be first or anything, but it would be nice if my cheers didn’t disappear simply because I’m unable to comment. like, or post discussions all day every day. I can’t see how anyone can accumulate 59,000+ cheers to redeem for the big prize if they deplete daily. I would think they wouldn’t have time to craft anything, as they would be constantly on this forum, in order to accumulate that many.

If someone could explain how they work and why they deplete, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don’t think you’ll lose cheers, but if you go to the top you can change it so you see your total cheers instead.

Oh, ok, I see. Mine was set for the week, rather than all time. Thank you so much. I will change it to all time and watch it that way. I didn’t even notice that you could change it. :joy:

@Samantha_Bryant, I am certainly no expert in the cheer department but i think it depends on where you are looking at them. If you are talking about in the “Global Leaderboard” section of the Community, those cheers I believe are off a 30 day rolling tally. So they will adjust almost daily as we move day to day depending on your cheers received in the previous 30 days. When I click on your name in the community I see the total cheers you have earned which is currently sitting at 1,483 total. Like I say… I am no expert and would invite anyone with more knowledge to chime in. Hope that helps!

Yes, thank you so much! I’ve been looking at the weekly totals, I believe. The Leaderboard is the only place I’ve been able to keep up with the cheers. Is there another way? I don’t see them when I go to my profile.

So where I tagged your name in my previous response. You can click on that and it will show you your profile with total cheers.

I always look at mine by clicking on my name in the Top Contributors section on the right hand side.

The more you interact like comment and such it unlocks more it’s a process to get up to being able to do more interaction but it also helps to not have a bot takeover in forms too and it’s fun earning badges and such.

Yeah, that makes sense. I completely understand needing to earn the trust level. I try to interact as much as I can, without becoming annoying and disingenuous. I’m not here just for cheers, I truly enjoy this community, and love making friends with fellow crafters/artists. I was just confused about why I kept seeing different cheers totals, and thought it was weird that it was going down. I had looked at the leaderboard a week ago, and saw I had like 900, but then when I logged in yesterday, it was at 700+. I thought I was going crazy lol. So, that’s when I wrote down my total and compared it today’s total, just to confirm it was going down. I never even noticed the drop down above the leaderboard lol. But I’m glad I made this post, because I still learned a lot more about the cheers. Hopefully, if anyone does the same thing I did, in the future, it will help them, as well. Thank you for adding more insight. It’s very much appreciated.

Yes, you guys are right @Dorthe, @Judi_B & @Cory_Barger . Thank you for your great input. I’m sure you were not alone in wondering this, so thank you @Samantha_Bryant for your question. I just have a couple things to add as well. You won’t lose cheer points until you redeem them for something. Best way to earn cheers is to participate in the events. Here’s the guide on How to Earn Cheers: Your Quick Guide! 📚

Unfortunately, some members have abused the system in the past which is why some of the restrictions are in place like only being able to comment 3 times in a row. It is greatly encouraged to tag people with in one post rather than create 3 different posts in a row. It also makes the topic a lot cleaner looking and easier to follow.

You can go to the milestone section and click on leaderboard

In this screen you can then change your cheer results by the drop-down arrow up the top.

You can choose daily, weekly, monthly, quarter, year or all time. All time will show you the total amount you have earned since the first day you joined the community. This is a good way to track your progress as it won’t fluctuate unless you redeem your cheer points.
Earning cheer points is an added bonus and is set up in a way to be a marathon incentive for just being here contributing within the community :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Awesome! Thanks for the added insights and adding the screenshots so others will know what we’re talking about. I had been looking at the leaderboard, but I think I just scrolled down so fast that I didn’t see the drop down to change the date range. I set it to all-time and will keep it there.

Just know you might have to change it to all time every time you open the page up. Just don’t want you freaking out and think where did all my cheers go.

The only reason I prefer to make multiple entries, rather than a single entry with multiple tags, is to keep the reply chain linked. Without doing it this way, it’s virtually impossible to keep track of earlier conversations.
I think it would be better if replies were hierarchical, like Facebook and Reddit, rather than purely chronological.
My memory’s not what it used to be - it used to be just bad, now it’s very bad!

I think @BellethehowtoGuru is right, and you’ll need to change the display to ‘all time’ again whenever you return to the leaderboard, as it forgets your setting.
