Crating my first Wooden Porch lean

:sparkles: My First Porch Leaner Story :sparkles:

From Mrs Cobb’s Wreaths and More

There’s something special about creating a piece with your own hands for the very first time. Today I stepped outside my comfort zone and crafted my very first wooden porch leaner — and honestly, it reminded me that crafting isn’t about perfection… it’s about heart.

I started with a plain board and a vision of something cozy, welcoming, and handmade with love. Piece by piece, paint stroke by paint stroke, it slowly came to life right there in my little crafting space.

The checkerboard pattern gave it that cute everyday farmhouse touch, the handled bow added charm and softness, and seeing my vinyl wording cut perfectly from my LokLik machine made me feel so proud. Every little step taught me patience, creativity, and confidence.

Sometimes we think we have to be experts before we try something new — but today proved that you simply have to start. :herb:

Step-by-Step Porch Leaner Prep & Crafting Instructions

:wood: Step 1: Prep the Board

  • Lightly sand the wooden porch board until smooth.

  • Wipe away dust with a damp cloth.

  • Apply a base coat of paint (white, black, cream, or stain works great).

  • Let dry completely before taping off your design.

:chess_pawn: Step 2: Create the Checkerboard Pattern

  • Use painter’s tape and a ruler to mark even squares.

  • Paint alternating squares for the checkerboard effect.

  • Carefully remove tape while paint is still slightly wet for clean lines.

  • Allow the entire board to dry fully.

:ribbon: Step 3: Make the Handled Bow

  • Choose coordinating ribbon styles and colors.

  • Layer ribbon loops evenly.

  • Twist floral wire tightly around the center.

  • Fluff each ribbon loop for fullness.

  • Attach greenery or accent pieces if desired.

  • Secure the bow to the top handle area with wire or hot glue.

:scissors: Step 4: Cut Vinyl with My LokLik

  • Create or upload wording design into the LokLik software.

  • Measure porch leaner spacing before cutting.

  • Load permanent vinyl into the machine.

  • Cut, weed excess vinyl, and apply transfer tape.

:black_heart: Step 5: Apply Vinyl Lettering

  • Center wording onto the porch leaner.

  • Smooth firmly with a scraper tool.

  • Slowly peel transfer tape away.

  • Touch up edges if needed.

:herb: Step 6: Final Touches

  • Add greenery, beads, or seasonal accents.

  • Seal with a protective clear coat if using outdoors.

  • Step back and admire your handmade creation!

Because at the end of the day… the best crafts aren’t just decorations — they’re memories made with your own hands. :two_hearts:
