Today’s mission is all about generosity, community, and the incredible ripple effect our handmade work can create when we choose to give back. With the holidays approaching, it feels like the perfect time to shift our focus from selling and producing to sharing and impacting.
Earlier this year, I donated several of my Midnight Flamingo shadow boxes to a charitable event, and the response was overwhelming. Seeing people light up at something handmade reminded me why giving back is so powerful. Our creations are more than projects. They carry time, intention, and a spark of who we are. When you donate a piece of your craft, you give someone a moment of joy they may not have experienced otherwise.
And soon, I will be donating several items to an upcoming rally at Fort Wilderness in Disney World. Although we will not be able to attend in person, my work will still be there — becoming part of prize drawings, bringing a little magic into someone’s evening, and hopefully making a memory that lasts.
Giving back is important not only because it spreads kindness, but because it strengthens the creative community. Events depend on donated items to raise funds and excitement. Families at shelters rely on handmade goods to brighten the toughest days. Local schools and charities often have tiny budgets, and a single donated craft can make an outsized impact.
But there is another truth many crafters overlook:
Donating your work also puts your name into the world in a meaningful, lasting way.
When people see a handmade item in a silent auction, giveaway, or community event, they often ask:
Who made this? Where did it come from? Do they sell their work?
Your donation can open doors you never expected — new customers, collaborations, commissions, and long-term supporters. And because the introduction happens through an act of generosity rather than a sales pitch, it creates goodwill that people remember.
Today’s Challenge: Crafting With Purpose
Think about how your creativity could make a difference this holiday season.
Here are your prompts to reflect on and share:
• What handmade item could you donate to a charity, shelter, school, community event, or holiday raffle?
• How could giving back help you grow — both personally and within the crafting community?
• Have you ever donated a craft before? What impact did it make on you or the recipient?
This season, let’s challenge ourselves to give not only from our craft rooms, but from our hearts. The work we make has power — to uplift, to connect, and to spread joy far beyond our walls.
Share your thoughts and experiences. Let’s inspire each other to craft with purpose and compassion.
