I’m completely obsessed with the iEngrave Cover Machine lately, so I had to test it out on something a little more intricate—cardstock cutting!
I chose a 5-layer butterfly design that felt just right for my sister-in-law’s birthday. It turned out beautifully and made the perfect handmade gift. I’ve already shared a sneak peek and some details in my Part 2 Hands-On Reviewer Program post, but I couldn’t resist highlighting it again here. The precision and clean cuts this machine delivers are seriously impressive!
I used 110# weight cardstock for the base card, and a mix of 92# and 110# weight for the five layered design. I glued all the layers together, except between layers 4 and 5—there, I added square double-sided foam to create a 3D effect.
TIP:When cutting cardstock, I recommend using magnets to hold it in place, since it tends to curl or shift while the machine is cutting.
Thank you @prinsesaian! I have not tried to cut felt fabrics ‘coz synthetic felt and treated felt are not recommended. Some materials are extremely dangerous or ineffective to cut with any laser, particularly a diode laser, due to toxic emissions or other hazards.
I wanted it to feel playful but elegant! I tried to pick cardstocks to match the colors of HTVRONT & LOKLiK. So happy the blue dotted pattern caught your eye!
Okay, that butterfly sounds next-level gorgeous! Five layers? You really went all in—and I’m here for it. The iEngrave’s precision is no joke, and cardstock cutting is such a satisfying flex when it turns out clean. Your sister-in-law must’ve felt so special getting something that detailed and handmade. Gorgeous and great job @rinsky! Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate you!
Thank you so much! I really wanted the colors to feel playful but still elegant, and I tried to echo the HTVRONT & LOKLiK palette for a little extra brand love. It means a lot to know the choices resonated! I’m so glad the project sparked some inspiration—it was such a joy to create and share. Can’t wait to see what it inspires next in the community!
Ahh, thank you so much! I had way too much fun layering that butterfly—definitely a “go big or go home” moment. The iEngrave really showed off with those clean cuts! My sister-in-law was over the moon, and honestly, seeing her reaction made every pass worth it. I’m so glad it resonated with you too—your kind words mean a lot!
@prinsesaian, Yes! Both natural (wool) and synthetic felts are laser-cuttable. However, if your felt is a blend or of unknown origin, it could contain unsafe components. Wool felt produces an odor, while synthetic felt tends to melt and seal the edges.
Cutting felt, especially wool, produces strong odors and smoke from burning fibers. Proper ventilation is critical for safely exhausting the fumes outdoors.
I am curious, are you cutting intricate designs out from felt fabrics? ‘Coz you mentioned it took you so long to cut it using cutting machine.
