DIY Project Sharing | LOVE

I made this LOVE design, so that I could cut fabric and applique it onto a tote I made.

First, I used single-sided light-weight fusible interfacing to bond the fabric so it would actually cut without tearing.

Once I had the fabric bonded, I placed it onto a Fabric Grip mat, and set my Loklik Crafter to Cardstock (230 GSM). Force 7, speed 3.

Next, I used a straight stitch on my sewing machine to sew the letters onto the fabric I planned to use for the pocket. Once I had it sewn to the fabric, I used a zig-zag stitch (set to 1.0 length, 3.0 width) to give it an embroidered type edge. Making sure to cover the straight stitch I had already made.

NOTE: When appliqueing the letters to the fabric with the embroidered edge, it’s best to use a tearaway stabilizer so they fabric doesn’t bunch. I didn’t have any stabilizer, at the time, so my fabric did bunch a little.

However, if you want to skip the sewing, you can always use a double-sided fusible interfacing to bond your fabric, then, iron on the letters.

Another NOTE: The O in the word looks to be a solid circle, however, when you change it from “Fill” to “Contour” you will see the letter O as it should be, and it will cut the letter properly.

WARNING: If you’re using heat transfer vinyl, as I did on the reversible side pocket, be sure to press the design onto the pocket fabric BEFORE sewing the pocket to your bag. Otherwise, the vinyl will also adhere to the bag, as I had to peel the pocket away from the bag when I was done pressing.

@OliviaZzz can you please merge? Samantha shared it from IS to join the event and it is duplicated

Thank you! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Reversible Fabric Tote with Applique and HTV

Yes! Thank you! I couldn’t figure it out. :joy: I also noticed that I have 2 profiles. It would be nice if they could be merged, as well. The only thing I did was edit my username to remove the underscore between my first and last name, and I changed my profile pic. Apparently, it just created a whole different profile when I did that. :woman_shrugging:

:open_mouth: Let’s tell the @admins or just DM any of them, it will be easier

Yeah, hopefully they can do something about it. Thanks for tagging them. I think when I like stuff or post from the app on my phone, it posts as the other account, and when I post from my computer, it posts under this one lol. I can see both of my profiles in the views and likes on the bottom of this thread lol.

I finally used my Loklik Crafter to cute fabric! It’s so fun and awesome! I used fusible interfacing and bonded it to the wrong side of the fabric. Then, I set my Loklik to Cardstock 230 gsm, 8 pressure, 3 speed, and it worked perfectly! I then used my sewing machine to sew on the letters. I only had a small amount of the fabric I used for the letters, so for the other pocket, I decided to use my yellow holographic HTV. When I was finished with the tote, I decided to make a little tag to add a little more love to the bag before I put it on my website. I stitched the yellow and purple fabrics together with a decorative heart stitch, then, pressed a blessing on the yellow side with purple HTV, and on the purple side I used the same yellow holographic HTV and pressed one of my favorite Bible verses. I added an eyelet, then, tied it onto the bag using some purple embroidery floss. I wanted to use ribbon, but unfortunately, I didn’t have any in purple or yellow. I thought this would be worth sharing for those who love to sew.

You did an amazing job and found very good solutions to the obstacles. It turned out lovely!

So you did cut fabric with the Crafter ha!? Our beloved little one… of course with interfacing… I’m sure I’m going to try soon for any sewing project, so your settings and description will be very useful, Thank you so much for sharing! :hugs:

Don´t forget addind the word-craft-joy tag and post your project to here to joing the Word Craft Joy Event

Thank you so much for the kind words and the reminder about the Word Craft Joy Event! I’ll certainly be sure to enter it.

Yes, I tried to cut fabric with the Crafter 2 years ago, but I didn’t know I needed to add the interfacing, so it just destroyed the fabric. I recently decided to look more into it and realized it cuts bonded fabric. I was like, “Oh, that makes so much sense!” :joy: Once bonded the interfacing, it worked! I was ecstatic! I have so many ideas for sewing projects now lol. I haven’t seen any fabric cuts on here, so I wanted to let those who like to sew know that it is definitely possible. I’m happy my settings will be of some help to you. I look forward to seeing your creations when you do try it.

Oh ok, so not the Crafter but the iCraft :slightly_frowning_face:, which is namely able to cut fabric. Anyways I now I can cut fabric with the Crafter too, I will one day (epic music :joy:)

Thank you for the kind words. I’m happy you think so. I loved the idea of the tag, and it turned out even better than I had imagined. It also allowed me to use some tools that I completely forgot I had, such as the fabric/leather hole puncher and the eyelet rings. :joy:

Yes, it is totally possible to cut fabric with the Crafter, too. I plan on getting an iCraft in the next couple of months, because I think it’ll probably be even better at cutting fabric and at print then cut. However, I’m hoping that one day they’ll make a Loklik that can cut non-bonded fabric by using a rotary blade. That way, I can save a lot of time by not having to manually measure and cut out my patterns lol.

Awesome! I’m happy you found it useful. It’s definitely info I wish I had when I first tried to cut fabric with my Crafter lol. High five right back at ya! :raised_back_of_hand:

So I’ve looked and you defiantly only have one profile. I’m thinking maybe logout of the one on your phone and close down the app. Then open it up and log back in. Maybe that might refresh it on your phone.

Also, thank you for the information you shared. So helpful to everyone wanting to test this too.

Well, when I click the Leaderboard, it shows I’m number 19 and number 68. The 19 one has my name without the underscore and the 68 shows it with the underscore. When I click on the 68 one, it shows that I haven’t really been active, and still says my trust level is new. But I’ll definitely try logging out and back in on my phone app to see if that fixes it. Thank you for the suggestion and taking a look.

And no problem. I’m happy I’m always happy to help.

Edit: Well, I logged out of the phone app and the website, still the same. It’s weird because my phone app has a totally different profile pic than either of the ones I’m seeing on here lol. I’m getting some of the notifications from here on my phone, along with the old ones that show up from projects I’ve shared prior to changing my username, which don’t show up under the profile I’m on here.
