PU Leather Passport Cover with HTV – Step-by-Step Guide**
This is one of my first projects of 2025—personalizing passport covers with HTV. I usually do sublimation, so working with HTV was a bit intimidating. But one of my goals this year is to master layering, which is my biggest challenge.
Here’s a quick guide for anyone wanting to try this project—it’s a great seller!
Materials:
- iPad/Laptop
- Design software (for cutting machine)
- HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl)
- Weeding tool
- Vinyl cutting machine
- Passport cover (PU leather)
- Parchment paper
- Heat press
- Scissors
- Brayer
Method:
- Prepare Heat Press: Set the heat press to 150°C and 5 seconds.
- Measure the Passport Cover: Measure to determine the size for your design (e.g., my design was 5.48cm x 1.45cm).
- Create the Design: Use your design software to input the name or text, then mirror the design.
- Cut the HTV: Choose the right material (e.g., metallic gold HTV), place the shiny side down on the cutting mat, and use a brayer to smooth it out. Set your cutting machine and cut.
- Weed the Design: Use a weeding tool to remove excess vinyl carefully.
- Position the HTV: Place the weeded HTV onto the passport cover with the shiny transfer side up, then position it as desired.
- Press the Design: Place parchment paper on top and press with your heat press for 5 seconds.
- Cool and Peel: Let it cool, then remove the transfer paper. The design should now be applied!
This is an easy, simple project to make and sell well. I hope this encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and make 2025 even better!
