Our traditions changed as the boys grew up amd then moved away and started families of their own. We used to hide easter eggs … first real ones and then plastic filled ones after a real one didn’t get found and made quite the stink. Now it’s us by ourselves with a ham and mashed potatoes and a phone call from each of our boys and their families ( our grandbabies).
For Resurrection Sunday, growing up, my family would get together after service for dinner. This would include my mother, her siblings, her parents and my first cousins. Many times, my father’s parents would attend as well. My grandparents lived across the street from each other.
Today, so much has changed. A lot of my family are no longer with us. We still celebrate and observe by attending church. This year, I want a small setting with a meal and time for reflection. Life has been so busy, I don’t want to prepare a big meal and host. I just want simple this year.
I’m excited to see the traditions of other and how you are celebrating this year.
Every year, we spend Saturday afternoon painting our Easter eggs — it’s one of our favorite family traditions. On Easter Sunday, we go to church together to celebrate new beginnings with God, then head back home for dinner and turn those painted eggs into delicious “angel eggs.”
We often use Easter to celebrate our two youngest children as they were both born on Easter, 5 years and 5 days apart. This year Easter is quite early, but it was best to celebrate the birthday anyway. Sometimes we have Easter lunch with the family.
I’m celebrating this year by watching my first grandchild hunt eggs. She’s 2 but wasnt walking last year in time. I’m so eggcited to help her color them and hunt them this year. That was always one of my favorite things to do as a child. My mom had this huge pot she used for making soup. She’d boil a couple dozen eggs and all the grandkids and of course me (because I was the late surprise they recieved) would all decorate and hunt them. I will probably sneak in a Easter photo shoot for her as well.
