You’ll never be comfortable with it, until you go ahead and whip out that brush!:+1: I encourage you to give it go, even if it’s just to paint random doodles on some paper.

My Crafting Story

I loved watching bob Ross making his magic trees and mountains :mountain_snow:!

My crafting journey began in the most unexpected way—through homeschooling my five-year-old. We live in a failing school district, and making the decision to homeschool wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. One of his kindergarten curriculums included art, and they sent us canvases and paint. That simple box of supplies changed everything.

Before October of last year, I had never crafted or created anything. But as we sat together painting and creating, something sparked. What started as an activity for my child quickly became a shared experience—and then, a personal outlet I didn’t know I desperately needed.

Since that moment, crafting has grown into so much more. What began at our kitchen table has turned into a small business creating wreaths and home décor, and I continue to explore new techniques and tools as I learn. Every piece I make reflects growth, patience, and heart—because I’m learning as I go.

Crafting has also become my place of peace. I am a full-time caregiver to my husband, my child, my father-in-law, and my mother-in-law, who is bedridden with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Life can be heavy, and worry can be constant—but when I craft, my mind is clear. Those moments are my escape, my therapy, and my reminder that creativity can exist even in the hardest seasons.

What makes this journey special to me is that it was never planned. It was born from love, necessity, and faith—and it continues to grow one project at a time. Crafting didn’t just give me a business; it gave me confidence, calm, and a way to create beauty in the middle of caregiving and chaos.

I don’t really have a talent for painting, so I bought a paint-by-numbers canvas—where the canvas already has numbers and you simply paint the colors that match each number. The one and only canvas I bought online was this deer.

I always include it in my photoshoots of finished products as part of my background because the meaning of the deer in the Bible is beautiful and meaningful.

So if you’re like me and don’t have a talent for painting, you can also just buy a ready-made paint-by-numbers canvas from an online shop.

I’m not that great at painting plus the clean up is taxing so I try to avoid it  I used to draw, well more on copying only. When I see a blank canvas, I can’t think of what to make
Here are some of my “copies”

@shirleycobb, your paintings are wonderful! Thanks for sharing them and the story that goes along with them. I’m happy art helps you escape the chaos.

@Rose_Ann_Dauden, you’re very welcome. Sometimes, the most beautiful pieces are the least expected.

@timmytation, thanks so much! I’m happy you think so. Yours are amazing, too! Drawing from reference is still drawing, and you’re very good at it. Mine are also drawn from reference. Most artists will tone the canvas with color to eliminate the intimidating stark white surface that causes painter’s block. So, you’re not the only one who “can’t think of what to make” on a white canvas. Sometimes, just adding some color will spark the creativity that you need to put something on the canvas.

@Susana_Gallegos, thank you so very much for your sweet comment. I’m thrilled that you think they’re amazing.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts::heart:

It’s been a while and here are my paintings that I love:

I usually paint on mini canvas because sometimes time is not enough and just keeping it simple so I won’t over complicate it. It is also a great present and giveaway.

These are absolutely gorgeous! The first one is very stunning! :star_struck: You’re very talented. I agree, mini paintings are fun to do, as well! I’ve worked on 1 inch watercolor sheets, myself, and think they can be more satisfying than painting a large 16x20 piece.

I have been painting mostly paint by number lately … that’s why I got the ipaint. I do it while watching tv since I just can’t stand sitting without doing something. The serious painting is reserved for other times.

I use mainly acrylic paints but I do my fare sharer of silk painting. Fave colors … Aqua, pink, and purple. The happy colors of my life. My studio is filled with these colors. I used to work at a senior center as the activities director and a lot of the time was spent finding crafts for seniors to work on the help fill their time. Now I’m the senior filling my time with crafts. lol

Here are a few of the things I have done. The tree is on my kitchen wall and is filled with the handprints of friends and family members. They are all labeled with a name and a date. It’s fun to watch my grandchildren’s hand grow as they grow up. The smallest one is my granddaughter at 3 weeks old.
