🎨 Friday Fun | Paint, Art & Create

Hey everyone! Happy Friday!

When you think of painting, what comes to mind?

Is it soft watercolor washes, bold splashes of color, or those carefree doodles we made as kids while exploring the world, no rules, just imagination and fun?

Painting isn’t just something you hang on a wall, it can be amazing craft inspiration too! Turn your brush strokes into stickers, cards, home décor, tote bags, tumblers… or even a design you’d love to cut and layer later :sparkles:

Let’s share!

Share anything you want to share:

  • What’s your favorite thing to paint? (flowers, animals, abstract, landscapes, cute characters…) You can share some of them if you have.
  • :woman_artist: Your favorite artist (or art style)
  • What do you paint with? (watercolor, acrylic, markers, Procreate/iPad, kids’ paint… anything!)
  • A color palette you’re loving lately
  • A painting, sketch, or even a work-in-progress you’d like to share
  • A painting idea you’d love to turn into a craft someday (card, sticker, shirt, wall art, etc.)
Paintings, photos, finished projects all are welcome! :two_hearts:

Unfortunately, I’m not a painter. However, I do envy those that are!! I appreciate art, I’m drawn to bold colors and texture.

Totally same here! I’m not really a painter either, but I love art.

Every time I visit a museum and stand in front of paintings, I can’t help but admire an artist’s incredible observation and imagination, how they capture light, mood, and tiny details, or even create a whole world from scratch. Like Claude Monet’s painting, it always feels like you can see the air and the sunlight.

I started to say, “I’m not a painter.”
Then I paused… and remembered—I have painted before, many times, for crafting.

I don’t know why I tend to cut myself short when it comes to the things I do. I don’t usually consider myself an “artist” when it comes to painting. Yet, when I really sit down and do it, I create something beautiful.

Maybe not in the traditional sense—but in my own way, I do paint. I’ve painted wood as preparation for crafts, laying the foundation before adding vinyl and bringing a vision to life. That process reminded me of something important: painting is still painting, and creating is still creating.

This moment reminded me that I do paint, and when I do, I create great masterpieces—purposeful, intentional, and meaningful. :art::sparkles:

Oh, I LOVE all things art! I have so many favorite paintings and drawings, it’s hard to choose which ones to share. As a mixed media artist, I love watercolor, acrylic, gouache, charcoal, colored pencils, graphite, ink, and even digital art. I prefer traditional media over digital, and my favorite medium to use would have to be good ol’ graphite pencil. Like I said, it’s difficult to choose my favorites, but here are some that I found in my gallery. I created some collages, so I’m not photo dumping too many images. :joy:

This set is made up of 3 watercolor paintings, and one paint pour with acrylic skins glued to the poured background to look like poppies.

This one is all acrylic paintings done on canvas. The 2 eyes are finished with epoxy resin.

The first one here, I drew with pencil, then I painted it with acrylic brush pens, some watercolor, fine liners, and colored pencils. The others are graphite pencil drawings, mixed with a little charcoal. Can you guess who the person is in the framed drawing?

And, yes, I do like to make stickers with my art.:+1:

Almost forgot, I made this 3D interactive card, last summer. I used watercolor to paint the beach scene, then did a print then cut and slid them into the painting, either by cutting slits into the watercolor paper, or using foam tape, like I did with the sun and seagull.

Artists don’t always use paint, pencil, pens, etc. If you make anything you’re an artist. There are cake artists, food artists, HTV artists, etc. You are an artist. Don’t be afraid to call yourself one.

Thank you for that reminder.

I love the feeling of painting on a canvas, I’m not skilled because Ive never taken the time to learn in depth but I love admiring the work of others because of how much creativity you can see from their original pieces. I really like watercolor maybe ill get into learning that.

I’m definitely not a painter but i tried as a kid. I made a little “art gallery” in a hallway as a child. Everyone told me how good I did and them I moved on to other things. I liked painting nature such as animals, flowers, and trees. Lots of landscapes.

I will say I picked up a couple brushes around 2020. I was part of a group of moms with special needs kids. We got together for craft nights once a month and just to talk, councel, and support each other. We did a couple of night of painting. Lol, of course I did a beach scene. I don’t think its necessary to be great at painting or consider yourself a painter to still get benefits of relaxing and just trying.

I’ve honestly been thinking of doing some type of craft night near me.

This is a great painting for someone who doesn’t paint often. It’s definitely something that you get better at the more you do it. And you’re absolutely right. Just picking up a paintbrush and putting it onto the paper/canvas is so therapeutic. I started painting again in 2020. I hadn’t painted or drawn anything in 19 years, but just drawing and painting helped my mental health so much. Now, I use it as a form of therapy to ease anxiety and depression.

Lol, I am there with you. I cannot paint or even draw!!! But my daughter is blessed with a gift and is a magnificent artist.

Thank you. I really should have kept it up. I actually have canvases I purchased at the dollar store to play around with but never got back to it. My granddaughter will be 2 Feb 21 and I think some finger paints will be a nice spring activity we can do outside. I deal with anxiety and depression as well. I’d started painting rocks but I go so busy taking care of everyone I forget to take time out for myself. I’ve noticed since being in this community I’ve been trying more things. It’s such an encouraging and creative community.

I’m really glad you shared that, because I completely understand what it feels like to get so busy taking care of everyone else that you forget to take care of yourself. That’s exactly why I had to step back and make time for my own creativity again — I realized I was neglecting my mental health, and I deserved better than that.

Painting became my way of slowing down and giving myself the love I kept giving to everyone else. And honestly, it’s okay to put yourself first sometimes. You can’t pour into others if you’re running on empty, and grown folks really do have to learn to take care of themselves too.

If you still have those canvases, play around with them when you get a quiet moment. You’d be surprised how much it helps. And painting with your granddaughter sounds like such a sweet way to ease back into it.

I’m happy this community is inspiring you — that’s what makes it special. I’m also grateful for this inspirational community. I hope you stick around and keep sharing your projects with us. I love watching people grow into their best, most creative selves.

I enjoy painting and have fun with it I like painting wood cutouts but I have some some canvases I enjoy mixing colors and trying to give depth to things usually I use acrylic paint and paint markers.
Hers some things I have painted. The uncork sign was done with a stencil Harry Potter and hocus pocus are wood cut out I painted. They are some of my personal favorites.

I wouldn’t call myself a painter because I don’t do it often enough to be comfortable whipping out a brush and creating. I would say that nature scenes would be what I would feel most gravitated to - something about creating the perfect scene or surrounding to match my thoughts.
