Ohh you unblocked a memory for me! Maybe my first craft when I was very little and made clothings for my cutout dolls and then I made the dolls themselves. Now that I think about it, it may be my first cutting plotter scissors projects ![]()
Crafting to me I guess is the materialization of 2D designs, the âengineeringâ side, giving real life to an idea, that goes beyond the drawing when it is not only a picture, painting or illustration. When it is not only meant to be on a sheet or canvas.
Right now Iâm making a little pouch with htv. Something like that needs planning, drawing a sewing pattern, a design for the htv, sewing, pressing⌠small design engineering. To sum up, it means applied design, the practical side of arts.
To me craft means peace. Itâs what helps me calm down, itâs my therapy. I have always loved to craft but wasnât allowed to when I was a child. Now that I am an adult and I get to craft itâs a dream that god has made come true.
Crafting brings me peace especially during tough times.
growing up I would see my grandmother making wreaths and then gifting them out to friends and family for the holidays. My other grandmother would crochet blankets and I always thought both were really cool ways to make gifts. as a kid I would try to be creative but could never quite get it right. then at 15 I tried to crochet⌠and I was horrible at it! then I tried crafting again this time it was for my wedding. I made all my own center piece for the tables using mason jars glitter and solar lights and once those came out and I heard everyone wanting them I was like o maybe I can craft âŚfast-forward to now and I cant stop trying new crafts ! and getting to meet all you amazing people inspire me even more
From the beginning of time humans have crafted, I truly believe thatâs one of the purposes we are here for. I left school young at 14, at 16 I was a book binder for a local news outlet, by 19 I had taught myself traditional leathercraft and had a home small business selling my creations.
My next venture was leather clothing, I loved it, I started my own business which changed by demand to making t-shirts and hoodies, I taught myself how to screenprint print and create designs for businessâs, sports teams, schools and fishing trip groups!
fast forward and the internet showed us how to do anything our hearts desired, so I learnt how to make Junk Journals! I love them and I made many videos on how to make them.
Itâs funny because something that I done 30 years ago Iâve done full circle to today and Iâm doing it again, but with new ideas, new tools, the better easier way than before! I met HTVRont/LOKLik with the most amazing craft machines & goodies to make t-shirts, caps, phone cases etc.
this all still aligns with my love of craft and being able to work from home as a small business,
craft means everything to me, it has my whole life. ![]()
Crafting is my creative outlet and safe space. When im stressed, i craft.
Craft, to me, means art, love and legacy. My Mom was trained to be a seamstress while in displacement camps in Austria from 1944-1949. At 4 years old, she had me hand sewing and on the machine at 5. Next came crocheting and at 7, she had me and two of my brothers knitting 12" squares that were then made into a large afghan. My brother has that afghan that we made over 50 years ago. I take every opportunity with my projects to create a unique, personal item with the goal of evoking a feeling from the person that will receive it and hope that they are touched enough to save it for years or even decades. Adding love in every stitch, every color, every detail, to me, makes all the difference and takes a craft to the art level.
What does âcraftâ mean to me?
Craft is my language of love, legacy, and liberation. Itâs how I troubleshoot the world, stitch joy into hard days, and build bridges between people who might never have met otherwise. Itâs both my playground and my protestâwhere creativity meets strategy, and where every scrap has potential.
âThis is one of the most memorable handmade gifts I received from a friend and co-worker back in 2013âthe year I gave birth to my one and only daughter. Itâs a nutcracker bottle opener that he cut from stainless steel and finished with a red powder coating. Though heâs no longer with us, I always remember him: a true leader, full of kindness, a sweet smile, and unforgettable jokes. I will keep and treasure this for the rest of my life and maybe pass it along to my daughter when the time comes.â
For me, crafts are like cooking⌠a way to show appreciation, a way to express local culture and keep traditions alive. My first memory of crafts wasnât even my mother crocheting slippers to help with the household income, but rather of a group of Brazilian indigenous people gathered in a square in my hometown selling beautiful pieces made of straw and clay.
Crafts that I cherish, besides the ones my children make at school, are the pieces that patients at my work make and give to me with all their love⌠even when dementia sets in, they always make something and give me as gifts, like these:
Creating
Rejoicing
Anointing
Forever
Talent
this is what CRAFT means to me in every project I DO I put a lot of Love into making my Crafts that I give as Gifts. My fondest memory was making Chains out of Craft Paper when I was a little girl so I have always loved crafts. Back in the day we had to learn how to Sew, Knit, Crochet and Cook when we were young. So, when my oldest daughter turned 6 my mother taught her how to Crochet, Knit and Sew as well as let her help cook the same way she taught me so many years ago. Happy Crafting everyone!
Craft means expressing my freedom, it means to have me time and explore my talents in ways I couldnât have imagined. When I got into crafting I didnât know I was capable of things until I tried. Craft means dedicating time to our efforts which then turns into beautiful projects.
