Let’s talk about two of the most popular methods for customizing apparel and more: HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) vs. Sublimation.
I’d love to hear your experiences! Which one do you prefer—and why?
Here are a few things to think about:
Do you like the bold, layered look of HTV or the smooth, ink-into-fabric feel of sublimation?
How do you handle fabric choices—do you stick with cotton for HTV and poly for sublimation?
What are your favorite projects to make with each method?
Any tips for newbies trying to decide which method to start with?
Have you ever combined the two in one project?
Pros and cons welcome! Whether it’s about cost, ease of use, design flexibility, or material limitations—let’s help each other learn and maybe even inspire someone to try something new!
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts—and see your projects if you want to share pics!
Personally, I work with both sublimation and HTV in my projects. When I first got my sublimation printer, I took a break from HTV for a while, but lately I’ve found myself reaching for HTV more often again.
I don’t currently have a DTF printer and haven’t tried ordering DTF transfers, so I didn’t include that method in this post. However, if DTF is your go-to, I’d love to hear why—and please feel free to share your latest creations!
Here is my latest shirt done with HTV, hope you like it.
It depends on the design some should be made with sublimation only and some with htvs and sometimes both.
I use cotton as most of my Tshirts made for kids and cotton is always better for the skin and warm weather but THE SECRET is when using sublimation I use HTVRONT sublimation htv which can be used on all kinds of fabrics.
Agree, some designs are just too detailed for HTV. I’m all for layering but sometimes it’s just easier to sub. I LOVE LOVE LOVE sublimating on HTVRONT’s white rainbow glitter or purple rainbow glitter HTV. When I make things for my little niece, I love the sparkle it gives off plus it subs so niceley.
I love all your pictures, thank you so much for sharing!
