Htvront & Loklik Mats too Sticky when new

#TinyTutorialTuesday - Cutting/Grip Mats

I know I’m not the only one who experienced getting their paper based materials destroyed when it’s time to remove it from the cutting mat

To lessen the stickiness, you can sprinkle some baby powder (just a little) or maybe dab it lightly on a towel or your clothes so that the fibers would stick to it and lessen the stickiness.

But since there’s material stuck on your mat already, the concern now would be how to remove it? For this, you can use a scraper to remove the bigger debris, then you can wash it with dish soap and water while scrubbing it lightly to rub off the remaining materials stuck on your mat. Once it dries, it will come back to it’s sticky self :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

But if you’re like me and sometimes not in the mood to clean the mats, I end up buying the packs and end up with a lot of mats to wash

Personally I like these generic unbranded mats from temu (no offense to the Htvront & Loklik cutting mats but they’re stickiness is on a different level  I do hope this can be improved. I like the purple mats for cutting leather)

Here’s a sample of the mat I use…

Look :eyes: no residues are left even though these are paper backed stickers :heart_eyes_cat:

Oh no, I didn’t see your post hahahaha. I just did a post about mats too, great minds think a like right lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To be honest, I haven’t had a problem with the stickiness of the HTVRont mats. The LOKLiK mats however, I don’t know how they are made but they are so sticky. I don’t think the adhesive that they use is as good quality as I have had the adhesive on my LOKLiK cutting mat just completely come off in places and it’s just smooth mat there.

Any paper related project whether it’s cardstock or even paper lined vinyl I always use my light grip mat (blue mat). It does the job and it’s easy to get off after cutting. Always peel the mat away from the material too, I find it helps.

There so may topics, I can’t keep up as well

I agree with the loklik mat especially the one included in the iCraft and Crafter kits are super sticky. It needs a warning or a separate instruction for 1st time use.

Have you tried the generic ones from temu? i love these and they’re really quite cheap. They don’t leave residue on the removed material. I’ve also heard that the siser light tack mat is also good.

I really hope taht Loklik and htvront can improve the formulation of the adhesives in the mats.

Thank you for sharing your tips as well :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Yes, it’s very hard to keep up with everything in the community. I did order some 3rd party mats from temu, the ones I got felt very thin compared to others I have and the sticky didn’t last very long even after washing them. I didn’t get lucky with them, so I have kinda stuck with a couple brands HTVRont, NICAPA and XINART. Whatever is on special at the time. Who makes yours?
I have the siser mats too and I really like their mats, but they are pricey.

I liked buying the Htvront 6 pack as they’re quite cheap especially when there’s a sale. Then I tried the one from temu since they had bargins, the ones I got was unbranded I think. I liked using those for paper backing especially for stickers and cardstock and the htvront ones for plastic backing, leather and other materials that need more adherence. I haven’t tried siser since it is a bit pricey. I’m planning on trying the ones from teckwrap and Craftytime (they have teal which is one of my fave colors :face_with_hand_over_mouth:)

Thank you for sharing definitely Htvront mats are definitely super sticky! This tip definitely helps if anyone has an issue with too sticky. I’ve never had an issue with them but of course everyone has a different experience. The thing I also do is that i keep mats that have lost a bit of their stickiness after many uses and many cleans so when I have to do something with a paper back it’s adhered just enough to do the job and unstick just fine. Still though I appreciate this little hack for when it’s too sticky and will definitely keep it in mind for the future :sparkling_heart:

I’m glad you learned something from my mini tutorial :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I also do that thing when you save the old mats to be used for sensitive materials to avoid ripping :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
