Story: [This is a very special place called Black Rock in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. it is a large jetty made up of volcanic black lava rocks. The rocks are home to abundant species of coral. The coral draws in the fish. The fish draw in the sea turtles, rays and dolphins and farther out the humpback whales… It is a mystical, magical place. Being underwater and watching all the sea life is an amazing experience.
My Shadowbox is home to the [humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (Rhinecanthus rectangulus), or reef triggerfish, is the official state fish of Hawaii. Known for its vibrant colors, angular shape, and a “pig-like” snout, this small, 10-inch fish inhabits shallow Pacific reefs, feeding on algae and invertebrates. They are highly territorial, aggressive, and known to bite divers. (Taken from Google).
This place is special to us. We spent our 40th Anniversay here. It was before the devastating fires in Lahaina. This area is much like it was before the fire but downtown Lahaina is still not developed. We will always remember the Old Town of Lahaina and the humuhumu celebrates Hawaii’s strong and brave history.
