Project | Cheers to the Night: A Toast in Layered Paper Shadow Box

This playful and vibrant shadow box captures the spirit of celebration in the most joyful way, turning a simple toast between friends into a glowing work of art. Built from layered cardstock and framed in crisp white, this design centers around an oversized frothy beer mug that feels almost animated with personality. The bright, golden yellow background instantly sets the scene with warmth and sparkle, echoing the color of a freshly poured brew catching the light. A foamy white and green “head” spills over the rim in soft curves, adding whimsy and movement, while bold blue accents bring striking contrast and balance throughout the piece.

Inside the transparent window of the mug, two silhouetted figures share a quiet yet meaningful moment at a bar. Shelves of bottles and glassware line the background, suggesting stories, laughter, and memories layered just like the paper itself. One figure lifts their glass high, mid-toast, while the other leans in, fully present in the moment. Though faceless, their shapes express friendship, connection, and the simple joy of time well spent.

Surrounding the mug, leafy blue branches and scattered stars burst outward like confetti, giving the entire piece a sense of celebration and motion. Every layer contributes to the depth, from the shadows cast by the cuts to the crisp edges that define each detail. It feels lively, happy, and just a little magical, as though the artwork itself is clinking glasses with you.

This shadow box is more than décor. It is a tribute to nights filled with laughter, shared stories, and the comforting ritual of raising a glass with the people who matter most. Whether displayed in a bar space, kitchen, or cozy corner, it radiates warmth, humor, and good cheer. Here’s to friendship, creativity, and paper turned into pure celebration. Cheers!

Great job. You can’t look at this and not feel the happiness and good cheer radiating from it. The sense of friendship or family. Just looking at the pic brings a smile to my face.

Hey @Cory_Barger , quick question. Do you create your shadowbox designs from scratch? Asking because I’m curious on the process. I was working on one I uploaded this weekend and I need to slice a couple of things through all the layers and I can’t quite figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?

Hey @Mark. Most I design myself are very simple because I don’t have a great design software that I am comfortable with to do moire intricate designs. I work with several artist friends to provide me my shadow box designs. I tried a complex box one time and it was the hottest mess.
