Project | Home sweet Home Spring honey 🍯 Bee!

Project Description

A round wooden door hanger with a black acrylic background.
Only the words are hand-painted.
The bee, flowers, and dotted flight path are clean LOKLiK iCrafter vinyl cut designs applied on top for a crisp look.

• Wooden door hanger (Michaels)
• Black acrylic paint
• White (or light color) acrylic paint (for words only)
• Paint brushes (one flat, one small detail)
• Adhesive vinyl (yellow, white, floral colors)

• Clear sealer (matte)

Steps

  1. Prep & Paint Background
    • Lightly sand if needed
    • Paint entire front black
    • Let dry, then add a second coat
    • Fully dry before moving on

  1. Sketch & Paint Words
    • Lightly sketch wording with pencil
    • Hand paint using a detail brush
    • Do 1–2 coats until bold
    • Let dry completely

  1. Cut Designs with LOKLiK
    • In LOKLiK software, create/import:

    • Weed out extra vinyl

    • Press firmly and peel tape slowly

  1. Seal
    • Light coat of matte clear sealer

Tips
• Keep layout balanced (don’t overcrowd)

Yea I would had I not already don’t the polyurethane  but I feel like it looks ok like this !

Oh, ok.:+1: I like to apply sealant before applying vinyl, because the sealant, especially oil-based polyurethane, can cause vinyl to lift at the edges, bubble, discolor over time, or sometimes, immediately. I learned my lesson on a canvas painting I did, as the sealant caused my white vinyl to have pink splotches and bubble immediately after I applied it. However, applying sealant to wood or canvas before applying vinyl can actually help it to adhere better, eliminating the need to apply sealant over top. Just some things to think about.

See I stain most of my wood and I have a matte finish and a shine finish both out door uv protection! Bc I thought it would help keep them lasting longer! But, I am new to this so thank you I will definitely :100: keep this is mind now ! Bc sealants are expensive!

Lol yes, and vinyl ain’t cheap either. :joy: Once my vinyl changed colors and bubbled, I did more research on it, and learned it was definitely from applying sealant over it. Good quality vinyl should do just fine without being sealed. However, if you do want to seal it, epoxy resin is the best way to go. It won’t harm it and will protect it for life. I use it to seal vinyl on my wood coasters and sometimes wooden canvases. And you’re most welcome. I like to pass on the lessons I learned from my own mistakes.

Yes, Shirley, I actually already have a video on my YouTube channel in which I mix epoxy resin to make my DIY Project Sharing | Faith It Till You Make It notebooks. It has the mixing process along with me pouring over vinyl. Feel free to check that out, and if you have any questions, I’ll definitely be here to answer them.

I also have a full epoxy resin guide (with free printable PDFs) on my website :point_down:t3:
