Every now and then, a craft project carries a little more heart than usual — a story tucked between the layers, a feeling captured in paper and glue. This Valentine’s Day cherry blossom shadow box was inspired by one of those unforgettable moments from the Chinese drama Shine On Me, where the boy plans to meet the girl beneath a blooming cherry blossom tree only for life to take an unexpected turn. That bittersweet, hopeful scene became the spark behind this piece — a reminder that love doesn’t always follow the path we expect, but it still finds a way to bloom.
Inside the shadow box, delicate paper blossoms made from soft hearts gather on the branches, creating a gentle, romantic scene. The layered design gives the tree a sense of depth and quiet movement, almost like petals drifting in a spring breeze. And the phrase “You make my heart bloom” ties the entire piece together with a message that feels tender, timeless, and full of emotion.
Whether you’re creating it for a partner, a close friend, or simply as dcor for your own space, it’s the kind of project that invites you to slow down and savor the process.
What You’ll Need

Cardstock in coordinating colors (210GSM Scrapbook size)
iCraft Cutting machine
Adhesive dots and Glue
Adhesive vinyl
How It Comes Together
Cut the tree silhouette from sturdy cardstock to form your base layer. (I drew this using the pen in IdeaStudio so it looks like a line project)
Create the blossoms by folding 3 hearts in half, gluing them together with one heart for the back.
I added a couple half hearts falling like leaves.
Arrange and glue the flowers onto the branches, building clusters for a natural blooming effect.
Place the finished design inside the shadow box, using foam tape for extra depth if desired.
Add your sentiment — “You make my heart bloom” — to the front to complete the story.
The result is a romantic, display‑ready piece that feels personal, polished, and full of meaning.
