To my D1 DTF Printer family, how do you make the most of your film? I feel like I waste a lot when printing, often ending up with a big unused section that could be saved for another project. I’m hesitant to take on small projects because I’m worried about wasting too much film.
You can add multiple images onto the canvas at once and arrange them to use as much of the film as possible. After printing and applying the powder, you can simply cut around each design before pressing. There will always be a bit of waste at the top and bottom of the print area, which is why many people batch several designs together—this way, you only lose that small section once instead of wasting it on every individual print.
Whenever possible, I also rotate my designs sideways if they fit, since it often uses even less film.
Hope that helps
Thanks so much, I hadn’t even considered that. Should I make the canvas size bigger? When I worked on those hunting shirts, adding them to the canvas kept triggering a message that part of the picture would be cut off, so I’d shrink them down until the message disappeared.
You should make the canvas as wide as you can print. Then the length can be any size as you are printing on rolls. Could you let me know what program you use to print from and I can have a look?
I used the riin and the better print app
I gang my designs up in the software. Use the arrows on the front of the machine to line up with the print head.
How do you make a gang sheet? I’m new to this.
A gang sheet is where you fill up the whole film width and how ever long you need. You fit however many designs into it by rotating your images.
If I have a pocket size logo I can get a few across the width to not waste film.
Awesome, got it. Did you make a tutorial?
Not yet but I can. Great suggestion!
