Reading Cushion

My first make of 2025 combines my sewing skills with my new found passion for HTV.
The cushion is made with fabric featuring a certain wizard and there is a pocket on the front to hold your latest read. The words are applied with HTV and I left enough room at the top to add a name at a later date.
Really pleased with the finished result.

I love this. I’m going to die my little boy. He loves Harry Potter!

Aw thank you. I’ve been making the cushions for a long time, but I always used to embroider on the pocket. Using the HTV has made it so much quicker and easier.

This is beautiful… I’m a huge Harry Potter fan! But due to copyright restrictions we are refrained to make anything that is linked to them. We simply don’t hold the licenses.

I know! It’s a bit of a nightmare that they sell you the fabric, but then restrict what you can do with it. You can’t make to sell but you can make for gifts

That’s the thing it’s not even allowed for personal use as I’ve been told so just keep away from it as far as possible. So I don’t even know how they are actually sold but I do see a lot of the people from the US using and selling a lot of copyrighted items. I know people personally that have been fined so I just stay well away.

You can definitely use it for personal use, but ONLY personal use. This fabric was in a fat quarter pack and the copywrite use is on the label. Like you, I keep away from it for my make to sell items. If someone asks me I tell them to buy the fabric themselves and I’ll make it for them.

Where are you from again? They don’t sale copyrighted items in your region?

I am from the uk, they sell them here but with a huge fine unless your a very large cooperation that holds licenses. Anyone selling copyrighted items in the uk are putting themselves at risk and could be fined up to £100,000 and taken to court. I’ve seen it happen unfortunately

Oh yeah selling is. I was specifically asking cause you said not even for personal use. I was going to say that sucks. It should be once you buy it it’s yours to do whatever you please but oh well. :woman_shrugging:t4:

We can purchased ready made products by licensed sellers however
Purchasing a fabric from a licensed seller and making it to then sell is a big no no!! That’s where the law comes in.

Yeah that’s the same here. But you can purchase simmering, make it and give it as a gift.

So i just got in some sublimation pillows cases for the couch for a another project I am fixing to start and i ordered a case of 12 and i think i will make two of them into a readng cushion. I think i will sublimate it then use some fat quarters with a similar theme from Walmart and sew on the pocket.
