I just recieved my machine. set it all up, but the laser wont move. wont go to origin, or frame. it makes this tiny little motion in place. it appears all cables are connected and in place. im really not sure what is wrong. please help!
Hey there—welcome to the community @julie_Bluhm, and I’m so sorry your first setup is off to a rocky start. Let’s see if we can get that laser moving! ![]()

Here are a few things to check that might help:
• USB connection: Make sure the machine is properly connected to your computer and that the software recognizes it. Sometimes a loose USB or driver issue can cause limited motion.
• Firmware & software: Double-check that you’ve installed the correct software (like LaserGRBL or LightBurn) and that your firmware is up to date. If the wrong machine profile is selected, it might not send proper movement commands.
• Limit switches or origin settings: If the machine is trying to home but can’t reach the origin, it might just twitch in place. Try manually jogging the laser head using the software controls to see if it responds.
• Cable seating: Even if cables look connected, give each one a firm push to make sure it’s fully seated—especially the motor (laser head module) and limit switch cables.
• Power supply: Confirm that the power brick is securely plugged in and the indicator light is on. A weak or interrupted power source can cause partial movement.
If you’re able to share which software you’re using and whether the machine makes any sounds or lights up during startup, that might help narrow things down. We’ve got your back—hang in there!
Actually, it will move and move to origin, but when i hit “frame”, it fails. i am tryingto just use loklik studio because i am new to this and the other software seems much more invoved for a start up person.
i have the all in one kit
Could you please let us know which software you’re using—LightBurn, the LOKLiK IS desktop app, or the mobile app? Also, if possible, share a screenshot of your screen and walk us through the steps you’re taking. That’ll help us better understand what’s happening and offer more accurate support! ![]()
What does your canvas look like when you press the Frame button? You’ll need to have a shape—like a square or template—selected for the Frame feature to work properly. Once it’s highlighted, the machine should trace the outline.
Here’s a reference link that might help: How to Use LOKLiK IdeaStudio app (Desktop Version) & Lightburn Software for iEngrave?
Hope that gives some clarity! Let us know what you see on your screen.
I just received my Loklik engraver with cover. I was able to follow the tutorials for setup and installation. I have been able to connect it with the loklik app on my phone and with the loklik ideacreate on my laptop.
I am not able to get it to engrave,
I chose a siimple project from the library
Then followed these steps/
- I put the design on the design board
- Then selected make
- I have flat, line, group, and engrave selected as well as solid wood for the material.
- I clicked next and the laser moved to the middle/right area of the machine
- I clicked “origin” and it made a grinding noise and beeped once
- I check the cords and the channel for the laser and there is nothing obstructing and the laser moves freely when moving it manually
- I hit origin again and it acts like it is cutting. Then stops in the same spot as it started.
- When I click on frame it will move then beep once and then it says frame failed please try again.
- When I try reframing it will move again slightly and then beep once. It does not draw a frame.
This is where I am stuck. I have power cycled off the machine for a minute. Tried again. Does the same thing.
I have tried moving the laser to the bottom left front of the machine and trying to origin it again. it will move hte laser back to the left rear and stop. I then tried to frame again and it fails.
I have turned off the machine and hit a long reset on the machine. It will beep three times when turning back on. However, this does not solve the problem either.
I do not know what to do with this machine from here!
Hi and welcome to the community, @LoriAnthony! I’m glad to hear your new iEngrave machine installed successfully, though I’m sorry you’re running into issues with engraving and framing.
When you get a chance, could you share a screenshot of your canvas, the exact error message, and the steps you’re taking? That will help us pinpoint what might be missing. A photo of your machine setup would also be helpful.
I noticed you selected Line for your engraving task. The machine interprets “line” similarly to a cut—it won’t actually cut through, but it will score a line. Also, the light grinding sound you hear when the laser head returns to origin is normal. No need to worry about that. The “frame fails” message usually appears if you click Reframe again too quickly or if a button is pressed while framing is still in progress.
A few things to check:
• Add a simple text object to your canvas and set your parameters. If you want to engrave text, highlight it and click Make. Choose Flat, set the operation style to Engrave, and select Fill instead of Line. Enter your material settings and try framing again.
• Adjust the laser head height so the focal pin touches your material, then return the focal pin to its place so it doesn’t interfere during framing.
Hope this helps! Please keep us updated!
I tried again using text and changed the operation to fill instead of line and same issue. I’m attaching the screen shots of my program, a picture of my engraver and a video showing what it does when I hit origin.
It looks like it didn’t complete your video upload. Could you please attach a video how your laser behaves when do framing as well?
I noticed a loud grinding sound when your laser head moves. Can you confirm whether the noise is coming from the laser itself and not the air pump motor? If you haven’t already, try running the machine without the air assist to see if the sound changes.
@Cory_Barger, could you check whether this noise is normal? I haven’t installed my air pump assist yet, so I can’t compare.
Did you try manually moving the laser head—starting at the top (left to right), then at the bottom (left to right), and guiding it through all four corners—to make sure it moves smoothly and nothing is catching on the pulleys or belts? I’ve seen a few users resolve framing issues by firmly pushing the laser head all the way into the top‑left corner (the origin) to re-establish its home position. Then press the reset button, power off the laser, and unplug it from the outlet. Wait about two minutes before plugging it back in and turning the machine on as you normally would.
Thanks for reaching out and asking @rinsky. The air assist does make a pretty significant noise when it is running. I listened to the video a couple time and it did sound like it may have been coming from the air assist.
i cmmpleted all of the steps as requested above. The laser head moves around smoothly. I tried another engrave. It seemed to frame ok but the laser didnt seem to fire (see screenshot). No blue light observed. The screen on the lollik software said interrupt.
And I turned the air assist off.
Oh wow, that noise did not sound normal at all. If LOKLiK Studio keeps showing “interrupt,” something in the setup or assembly is likely preventing the machine from operating correctly. From your videos, the door looks fully closed and I don’t see anything obvious blocking the laser’s movement, so this may be an internal issue.
At this point, the best next step is to reach out to HTVRONT support, since it’s possible the unit is faulty and may need replacement. I’m really sorry I can’t troubleshoot this further, but I want to make sure you get a safe and fully working machine.
Thank you so much for your assistance. ![]()
