Software

I am new to cutting machines but eager to learn. I am working from a tablet but still only getting the mobile app features and it’s very confusing. I would like to make some reusable stencils, can someone help??

Hi there @Jessica_Johnston! Welcome to the community! We’re happy you’re here! Congratulations on your new cutting machine. What exactly are you needing help with? I will be happy to screen record and walk through whatever process you’re stuck on.

I will say that without a PC to update your firmware, the machine may not perform at its highest potential. So if you could somehow get to a PC and upload the software just to update the firmware, that would be a tremendous upgrade for you. Maybe a friend or family member would allow you to use theirs. They could uninstall the app once you’re finished updating the firmware.

I was actually going to buy a laptop but my daughter said oh just get a tablet. :person_facepalming: I do a lot of paintings using stencils to help me draw them out. I tried to make a stencil but it came out all wrong…lol.

 Yeah, the PC version definitely gives you more options, and is needed for firmware updates. Your machine is probably on v3, but the latest is v8. I highly recommend getting to a PC to update to the latest version. The mobile app still has excellent features, though, and will be efficient for stencil making.

So are you trying to upload your own PNG or JPG image and make a stencil out of it? If so, you will need to convert it to an SVG in order to use the combine tools. PNG and JPG are uneditable files that can’t be used to slice into shapes, like a square, to create the stencil. If you’re using digital art and have an SVG file, it will be easier to create a stencil with. I can record a video to show you how to use the image matting function to convert your png/jpg, but it’s probably not going to turn out very well lol.

If you can let me know the file type, I can show you the best way to do it.
