It’s Tuesday again—time for a little community chat!
Today’s question feels like one to sip a coffee with and reflect a bit—on quiet moments, unexpected turns, and the little surprises that came along the way while crafting.
Crafting can feel like a peaceful, personal thing—but sometimes, it leads to something more.
A returning customer becomes someone you talk to beyond just orders.
An online question leads to a conversation that stays with you.
Or a quiet family member turns into a creative buddy once you realize you both love making things.
This week we’re asking:
Has crafting ever led to an experience or moment that caught you by surprise?
It doesn’t have to be big—just something that stayed with you. Mine? Classic answer—this community, obviously! lol
Drop your story in the comments below!
We’ll randomly pick 3 fun replies from the comments next Tuesday—each will receive 100 points as a little treat. Until then, stay creative
Crafting has led me to be introduced to the amazing HTVRONT and then LOKLiK, which has made a huge difference to my small business and made people see me as an influencer to the company and opened the opportunity to other companies to see me and my work and make collaborations with me
I believe the first step was made by the HTVRONT to collaborate with me has given me more confidence and more motivation to continue my journey and believe in my crafts and small business.
Of course nowadays I’m very happy to be part of this community and the fact that I have met friends from all over the world makes me grateful for being a crafter
So my moment of surprise was when I was at a craft fair last year. Now I don’t have many subscribers or followers on my channel or social media, I’m so grateful for the ones I have. So I was very taken back and surprised when I got recognized by my viewers at the craft fair. One of my viewers were from the press and I was featured in the local paper. Because of this all my classes I was teaching were all totally booked out. I hated turning people away and said I could organize in person or on zoom craft lessons. We’ll everyone banded together to find a spot we could rent cheap to have the classes so people didn’t miss out. It was so great to see everyone work together and help and support each other. Another example is in this very group. Everyone helps and supports and doesn’t expect anything in return. Now I have been apart of other groups, I was very into Dance when I was younger and it wasn’t a very supportive or helpful atmosphere. But all the crafty groups I’ve been in are totally great and that’s my big surprise moment. Crafty people want everyone to succeed and don’t keep secrets how to do certain things. It’s so great to be apart of.
~I have been crafting and selling online for a little over 2 decades… I usually also follow the trend… based on what is the IN thing and my interests too my market used to be people who are in the rock/underground music scene, selling and setting up booths at concerts/gigs… then moved to the anime/cosplay and now to KPOP… what surprised me is that some customers who ordered my handmade voodoo dolls etc from way way back… now orders KPOP stuff from me as well…
usually I also get messages that they kept stuff that I made a decade ago…
last night a customer messaged me to order something… and she said she used to buy stuff from me when she was in high school
it fills my heart that they still trust me to make my creations for them years later.
i make mostly stickers now and name tags… I appreciate that they continue to support my chosen craft…
Crafting led me to become a content creator, something I never envisioned when I was asked in a job interview three years ago, “Where do you see yourself in five years?”
Last year, I left the company to pursue crafting full-time.
I never imagined that crafting would bring me here, and now it has become my main source of income.
Content creation is a difficult beast sometimes lol. But it’s so great and rewarding, it’s my dream job. Hopefully soon, I can be like you and have this as my full-time job. Big congrats to you, keep doing what you’re doing, it’s great
I love crafting when I was a kid. But because of financial difficulties, I stopped collecting and buying things for crafting that time. I remember it started with the stickers and stationery that I bought in the store nearby our house and I sell it to my classmates who also like my stationery so I could buy something for my crafting. Then fast forward when I saw the loklik crafter for the first time, I feel like getting this machine will fulfill my dream as a kid to create a gated invitation cards, stickers and more. But to my surprise, its not only that I got when I have the machine but I gain friends and when I left my job, I used the machine to offer services on my small printing business.
I never knew that I would meet and get to know more people when I started crafting and decided to monetize it… I’m an introvert and I don’t really have much time and energy to socialize and meet new people. That’s why I’m just enjoying my own company doing arts and crafts. Usually I don’t have idea on the whereabouts of my neighborhood around me I’m sorry about that, coz it seems like I don’t care about them (this is not the case)… but when they knew I offer layout design, printing and customized items, they reach out and they had orders. I’m so thankful to them they appreciate my creations, but it doesn’t end there… we had chit chat for the first time in a while and we’re closer now I’m thankful in this venture too coz it somehow enhances my potential and abilities.
I’ve been crafting for a while, the moment I realized that crafts could rescue memories of patients with dementia (I’m caregiver) it makes my heart full of joy. A simple cake topper helped some patients to recall memories of special moments with loved ones. And besides that, crafts have helped develop my autistic daughter’s communication skills
This past winter I was working on a simple paper craft, a purple Madrid skyline to turn into a notebook back cover pocket.
My cousin came over with her daughter, who wandered into my workspace and asked excitedly if that Paris was for her.
At first I was confused, then I realized she’d mistaken the Torrespaña tower for the Eiffel Tower. Of course. I know she loves the Eiffel Tower!
So I switched plans. The notebook project could wait, someone needed something with the Eiffel Tower.
We ended up turning a purple HTV silhouette into a small patch and pressed it onto her tote bag. She helped me through the whole thing, weeding was her favorite part!
No photos, sadly, but her face when it was done? That’s the memory I kept. It’s so easy improvise a little craft for children having the rigth resources! And unexpected crafts are so fullfilling!
Thank you so much to everyone who shared their stories.
Honestly, halfway through reading them, I kind of regretted starting this topic—because your stories were so good, I wished I could give out way more rewards lol.
It was truly touching to see how crafting has helped so many of you gain confidence, build meaningful connections, and discover your own potential.
There was so much warmth, honesty, and quiet strength in the way you shared—and it reminded me why this community is such a special place.
100 points have been sent to everyone who joined the conversation
It’s just a small thank-you for sharing something so real and meaningful.
Have a lovely day, and thank you again for being part of this space.
