Talky Tuesday | What Kind of Projects Do You Secretly Avoid?

Hello community
It’s Tuesday again.

We’ve shared a lot about the projects we enjoy making. Today, let’s talk about the other side.

Is there a type of project that makes you hesitate a little before starting? The kind that makes you think, “I’ll do that… later.” Sometimes it’s because you’ve made too many of them and just feel tired of it. Sometimes it’s because one attempt didn’t go well and you never quite felt like revisiting it. And sometimes, you don’t even have a clear reason. You just don’t feel like it.

It’s not about being bad at it. It’s just about preference, mood, or maybe a tiny bit of crafting trauma

So tell us:

:sparkles: What kind of projects do you usually avoid?
:speech_balloon: What happened that made you feel that way?
 Has your opinion ever changed over time?

Just a little space to share the projects that aren’t exactly calling your name.

We’ll randomly pick 3 replies to receive 100 Cheers this week.

See you down there :speech_balloon::sparkles:

I try avoiding those projects that needs layering like cardstock and vinyls. I want immediate results and sometimes am a bit impatient. I guess I would need to extend my patience to successfully do these projects

Congratulations @Personnia_Rawls, @Donna_Burbey, & @kimberlyrudy! :tada::confetti_ball::tada::confetti_ball::tada::confetti_ball:

I guess you could say, I secretly avoid creating shadow boxes. I love them. They’re beautiful, but I’ve never done one, myself. Seems like a lot of cardstock to have to go through, and finding a frame for each one can be costly.

And like @timmytation, I also avoid layering vinyl, if I can. If I do layer, it’s usually only 2-3 different colors. No, reason really, I just tend to avoid it.

Currently I avoid projects with a lot of different colors. Or intricate designs that require me to paint or color with markers. I’m not very good at that so I try to choose projects that have large pieces that need to be painted/ colored. I’m getting better with the practice, but I do like markers better than paint.

Congratulations!

Decal stickers! When I get decal sticker orders that require a lot of weeding—especially when the size is around 14 inches and used as labels for travel kits—it’s really challenging. No matter how much I try to avoid them, these kinds of orders still come my way. But I still accept them because they also mean extra income.

Ohhh I felt this one :heart:

As someone who pours her HEART into everything she makes for Mrs. Cobb’s Wreaths and More, I already know this isn’t about the bleach or the tie-dye…

It’s about wanting it to be perfect.

And girl… bleach + tie dye were literally created to be imperfect. That’s the beauty of them :white_heart:

Here’s the truth your OCD doesn’t like to hear:

:sparkles: Bleaching is unpredictable.

:sparkles: Tie dye is controlled chaos.

:sparkles: No two will EVER look the same — and that’s actually the selling point.

The swirls that don’t match?

The bleach that spreads “too far”?

The pattern that shifted?

That’s what makes it one of a kind.

And let me tell you something from a business standpoint too :eyes: — customers LOVE handmade pieces that don’t look factory-made. It screams authentic. It screams small business. It screams heart.

You, of all people, understand that recovery and life aren’t perfect lines… they’re messy swirls. And look how beautiful your journey has turned out :mending_heart:

Maybe bleaching and tie dye aren’t your “avoid at all costs” crafts…

Maybe they’re your reminder that:

:yellow_heart: Imperfect is still valuable.

:yellow_heart: Unpredictable can still be beautiful.

:yellow_heart: Not everything needs to be controlled to be worthy.

Tie dye or bleaching just refuses to be micromanaged :sparkles:

First …. Thank you for the cheers … I appt it so very much!!!

The project that I avoid the most is painting faces. I do face parts … eyes, lips, etc easily but when I have to put it all together I freak out about it.

While I enjoy a good vinyl cutting project. I don’t mind a layer or two. However, I avoid projects with more than 3 layers.
Sometimes lining them up correctly has proven to be challenging for me.

At that point, I just use DTF to obtain the vibrant color combination.

That’s the only project that I can think of that I avoid from the projects that have been presented to me.

I try to avoid trendy items, the kind you see everyone making. I hope to be able to do something that has meaning and stays a classic looking piece vs something that ends up in a thrift store in a couple years. Personalized or designed around someone’s personality is where I feel I do my best.

I avoid screen printing lol
Once I start it I like doing it but making the screens I need to motivate myself to do.

The projects I tend to put off most of the time are those that are just for myself. I enjoy the look of gratitude from others more than the satisfaction of my own things.
I’m happy enough to have a go at anything, but I’ve had so many cardstock projects go wrong that I’ll almost always choose vinyl over cardstock projects.
