Understanding Transfer Tape Tack Levels (and Why They Act Like Moody Houseplants)

You ever notice how transfer tape has attitudes?
Low tack is chill. Medium tack is the reliable friend. Strong grip is that cousin who hugs too hard at family reunions. And then there’s Press’n Seal… the chaotic good hero none of us expected.

Let’s break down what each one is actually good for so your vinyl stops fighting for its life.

🩵 Low Tack Transfer Tape

Best for:

  • Cardstock & paper crafts
  • Removable vinyl
  • Large decals
  • Painted or delicate surfaces

Why it works:

Low tack is the gentle soul of the transfer‑tape world. It lifts vinyl without ripping your cardstock into confetti. Perfect when you need control without commitment.

:blue_heart: Medium Tack Transfer Tape

Best for:

  • Everyday permanent vinyl
  • Glossy, matte, holographic
  • Most decals, labels, and signs

Why it works:

Medium tack is the “default setting” of transfer tape. It grabs what it needs to grab, lets go when it’s supposed to, and doesn’t cause drama. If transfer tape were a coworker, this would be the dependable one who actually reads the emails.

:purple_heart: Strong Grip / High Tack Transfer Tape

Best for:

  • Glitter vinyl
  • Textured vinyl
  • Thick specialty films
  • Tiny, stubborn details

Why it works:

Strong grip is the heavyweight champion. It’s the only thing that can convince glitter vinyl to get up off the mat. But use it on cardstock and it will take the cardstock with it like a souvenir.

Avoid on:

  • Paper
  • Walls
  • Anything delicate
  • Anything you want to keep intact

:white_heart: Press’n Seal — The Unexpected MVP

Best for:

  • Cardstock
  • Layered paper pieces
  • Small, delicate cuts
  • Situations where real transfer tape is “too much”

Why it works:

Press’n Seal has a very light tack — just enough to lift cardstock pieces without tearing them. It’s perfect when you’re transferring tiny leaves, flowers, or lettering and don’t want to risk ripping your project.

It’s basically the “I got you, girl” of the craft room.

You’re very welcome. I’m happy you find it informative. I just looked it up, and Press N Seal is available at most grocery stores in the Philippines.

“Major grocery chains like SM Supermarket, Rustan’s, Robinsons Supermarket, and Landers carry Glad Press N Seal.”

Yeah, but it’s cheaper in grocery stores lol. I looked at Amazon first, then asked my ex-husband how much it was at the grocery store and it was like $2 cheaper, so I had him grab mine from the grocery store.
