Made of layered silhouettes with a southern Mediterranean coastal theme: a land line with a cactus in very dark smoky earth color; a second with palm trees in dark orange; a third with a palm tree and an agave or pita flower in light orange; the sea up to the horizon in yellow; and a white sun setting over the Mediterranean, facing east. A final pale yellow layer completes the sky, all cut inside a circle, giving a strong backlight atmosphere and a perfect summer sunset vibe.
Handwritten with the “mama” font, free in CF and now available in Idea Studio!! In warm oranges, it reads: “Veranito en mi isla de Encanta” (roughly means “Little summer on my Island of Delight”). A nod to the song “Isla de Encanta” by The Pixies, one of my favorite tracks to blast while driving to the beach. Always puts me in that ideal summer mood. All aims to transport you to that feeling, even if you’re not on holiday or it’s not even summer. Even if you’re far from a dreamy place like the fictional Encanta Island, inspired by Puerto Rico.
It could also work beautifully as a layered light box. I originally designed this for layered vinyl, but I didn’t have tones of orange, or blues or pinks, which would also look amazing (also gradients and holos). So I chose inkjet printable heat transfer paper. I pressed it onto very light raw white cotton fabric, about 140gsm and 100% cotton. It’s already cut and folded to be sewn into a tote bag, a gift for a loved one who needs cheering up. The design is meant to help drift toward our own Island of Encanta.
Made from scratch, doodling and line art in Krita and finished in Illustrator. I was so excited to complete it and finally try my new LOKLiK ImPress Auto 2 Smart. I approached this powerful machine with all the respect in the world and the process was an absolute blast! Look how it melts into the fabric. I’ve never seen a paper transfer this clean!
