🎨 Craft Her Story – The Power of Women in Creativity

March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate the strength, creativity, and impact of women. Beyond honoring women, it’s also about recognizing the incredible power that women and creativity bring to the world—through crafting, kindness, and the joy they share with others.

Think about the beautiful things you create—the handmade gifts that bring smiles, the crafts that brighten a child’s day, the inspiration you pass along. That’s the power of women. :sparkling_heart:

Some of the most touching stories in our community come from those who were introduced to crafting by the incredible women in their lives—a mother who sewed with love, an aunt who handmade gifts for the family, a grandmother who taught the joy of creating something with your own hands. These women didn’t just pass down skills—they built confidence, sparked creativity, and left a lasting legacy.

My mother sparked the passion that I have for crafting. Unfortunately I won’t be able to share the pictures of crafts that we made together but we sure had fun doing it, I will share some.

We cut letters from old newspapers and magazine to make bible verses and put it on our wall.

Whenever I have projects, she made sure that it is one of a kind! I remember doing a project in physics, we made a lantern (along with my dad) that was powered by a candle and the inside spins around while illuminating from the inside, we used colored cellophanes and it was so cool :star_struck:

We made flower vases by folding magazines and putting them together, I’m sorry, I don’t know the name of that art :joy:

She even helped me with the decoration for my daughter’s birthday, she made butterfly origami that was tied from the ceiling.

She sews cute and stylish ponytails.

She is so good with plants and even arranging it with pebbles and other decors, she made my dish garden (I even won at school).

She used to buy the scissors with different shapes, and other arts supplies while I was growing up. I sure loved it.

When I received the machines I redeemed from cheers, I tearfully sent her a message that I would really really love to do crafts with her again :face_holding_back_tears: I am suffering with depression lately and crafting is my outlet. I missed the strong woman that I look up to, I hope one day I can be as strong as she is. She is currently working in Ryadh.

I think I got her genes for creativity :heartbeat: Sharing my story of a mom and daughter who loves to craft, well I think I influenced my daughter too :heartpulse:

I saw this photo in my gallery. My 8yr old daughter took this photo while I am taking photos of my products. No shower, no make up, no fancy clothes. Just a simple mom and a crafter mom. I am so grateful because I can take care my children while earning money at home. I’m also thankful with loklik because my creativity expand. I created many things and product using loklik crafter just like the one in the photo. I also using this machine without noise so I didn’t disturb my children sleeping at night while crafting. I want to inspire other moms out there that there is always opportunity for us. Just take risk. :heartpulse: #WomensDay #CrafterMom #EmpoweredbyCreativity

What lovely stories that have been shared already.

My first crafting experiences were sewing and scrapbooking. My mum is a great seamstress and she taught me so much. She actually encouraged me to join the scrapbooking club to meet new people. I’ve always been creative and a problem solver. I’m pretty sure I get that from my mum. My mum and I didn’t see eye to eye very often but when we were sewing or crafting and even playing music, those moments were great together. Unfortunately I can’t find any pictures of the creations my mum and I made. Probably on an old hard drive somewhere.

I then found YouTube and a little channel back then of an awesome lady that made cards. She was my inspiration to start my own business in the crafting world. It’s not the same business as most of you, mine is more about helping the crafting community but Cathy gave me the courage to start it. I was watching one of her live Q & A’s and she answered all my questions and even reached out to me with how she records her videos and the equipment she uses. That’s one thing I have noticed in the crafty business, everyone is so willing to help everyone else. Everyone just works together, this is very unlikely in most other businesses and companies. It’s the thing I love about the crafty community.

Now I have 3 business all under the Belle the how to Guru banner. I wouldn’t be here without the inspirational women that I met along my path to actually do what I want to do, which is help people.

My mom is my role model as growing up I’ve always seen her knitting sewing doing lots of handmade crafts. As a child she also always gave me kids crafts to work with like embroidery canvas and as a teenager I wanted to do something more serious so we searched and found something so unique and requires lots of patience it was making tables covers from beeds and forming the beeds into beautiful shapes required maths and imagination  so thanks to my mother I am the creative person she created and everything I’m doing now and all the success I am having is because of her.
It has been almost 10 years since I saw her :pensive:
But thanks God there’s Internet to stay connected and talk everyday.

My mother one the best mothers amongst all the mothers out there, always a hard worker. Whilst growing up I always witnessed my mother working hard, she worked days sewing clothes for us children and nights for a clothing retailer in a factory using industrial machines. My love for crafts came from her, always seen my mother experimenting with different types of fabrics / machines and using different techniques to make exquisite peices.

She taught me how to use a sewing machine, she bought me my very own which I was so greatful for and one by one taught me about every machine she knew how to use.

From that point on I dipped my toes into many other crafts supporting crafters from all over the globe and helping them with their hobbies.

I ran various craft workshops and online one to one sessions helping people.

I wish I had photos but back then we never had cameras or phones, but I would have loved to shared photos of the events that took place.

On the plus side
In 2017 I launched a small clothing line and had my mum help me make children clothing for the high demand of orders that came in. every collection/ markets we attended, my mum contributed to the makes which made our business boom in sales.

Im glad I had my mother’s input to start my business. A mother’s contribution and prayers really help you go far.

Here are some photos of our creations. Hope you like them

Let me tell you about a woman who unknowingly shaped my love for crafting. When we were kids, she was always making something with her hands—sewing uniforms, dresses, and stuffed toys, repairing anything that needed fixing. But crafting wasn’t just a hobby for her; it was a way to provide. She sold rugs, barbecue, pandesal, and home-cooked breakfast just so we could have a little extra for school.

As a child, there were moments of frustration. She rarely had the time to watch my competitions, and I didn’t understand why. But she always reminded us that hard work was necessary to keep things going. Now, I see it clearly—her hands weren’t just creating crafts, they were building a life for us, one stitch, one sale, one sacrifice at a time.

She taught me that crafting isn’t just about making beautiful things; it’s about resilience, resourcefulness, and love. And because of her, I learned to find joy in creating, to put my heart into my work, and to appreciate the beauty of dedication.

As a small token of gratitude, I made a personalized decal adhesive with her name on it for her tablet—something simple, yet meaningful, to remind her that everything I create today is because of the inspiration she gave me.

:sparkles: Photo 1: Five-year-old me behind a Christmas tree, surrounded by stuffed toys—all lovingly made by my mom. Each one a testament to her skill and dedication.

:sparkles: Photo 2: College days, Psychology Night—she made me a Wednesday-inspired dress from scratch. No patterns, no fancy tools, just her talent and resourcefulness.

:sparkles: Photo 3: Another Psychology Night memory, this time as Kikyo from Inuyasha. Once again, she worked her magic, crafting a costume that made me feel like I stepped right out of the anime.

She didn’t just make things—she made moments, memories, and a lifelong love for creating. :yellow_heart:

To all the women here who create with love and purpose—know that what you do matters. Just like she inspired me, your craft has the power to touch lives. Happy Women’s Day!

One of my best mentor is my tita (aunt). She was the first one in our family to start a business in crafting. Our family is talented when it comes to crafting, but she was the only one who became successful in this field. She invested in many machines and materials. I was in 4th grade at that time, and I would sometimes help her and even borrow some of her items.

However, she eventually stopped because of stress. She was also a secretary in their company, and balancing work and crafting took a toll on her. The stress became too much, so she decided to stop.

When I was 16, I tried making money through crafting, and it worked! But when I turned 17, I had to stop because I started senior high school. During my first year in college, I continued crafting, and I started earning more than in the previous years. Then, when I was 19, my tita gave me her Cricut, heat press, and other materials and machines worth thousands. She even passed on some of her clients to me. I was so thankful for her generosity, as it helped me succeed in this field.

I’ve been blessed to have been inspired by my mom’s heart to share love and care to others. Thru my childhood, she always had our family helping with church and community events. I always enjoyed it but I did it because my mom said to. As I have become a mother myself, I’ve made it an important part of my business to give back to the community. Thru local outreach events for kids with autism, teachers and military families, I’ve been able to show my daughter that we should love on others and give back. I’m hoping that the inspiration I once received is also received by my daughter. Here are a few photos of the painting station we made for a free event for families with kids who have autism.
