Create A Sublimation Cap by Belle

In this tutorial I will explain how to customize a sublimation cap using the HTVRont Hat Heat Press. The HTVRont Hat Heat Press is the same as the LOKLiK Hat Heat Press so if you have either you will be able to do this project.

Materials Needed

  • Polyester Hat Blank – The higher the polyester count the better.
  • Lint Roller
  • Heat Resistant Tape
  • Butchers Paper
  • Sublimation Print on Sublimation Paper using a Sublimation Printer
  • A design of your choice

LOKLiK Idea Studio has a library full of cool designs that you can choose from.

Step 1.
Set your hat heat press to 200C for 60 seconds

Step 2.
Place your hat on the hat form that came with your hat heat press. Make sure the bill is sticking up and the tongue of your hat sticking out.

Step 3.
Lint roll your cap to remove loose particles so the sublimation transfers well

Step 4.
Preheat the area with your press for about 5 seconds

Step 5.
Line up your design and then secure it with heat resistant tape.

Step 6.
Now place butchers’ paper on top of your design so it catches any sublimation ink instead of it getting on your heat press. I secured the butchers paper down with heat resistant tape as well.

Step 7.
Now heat your design with your hat heat press. Apply medium amount of pressure. Take note if your design is wider than the heat press plate you may have to press multiple times to cover the whole design. You can set the timer to count down on the heat press by long pressing the power button.

Step 8.
Slowly peel back the design trying to keep it in place just in case you need to press again. My design didn’t get a full coverage. I tried to align it better so I could repress the H but it didn’t quite work.

I couldn’t quite get it lined up perfectly, so the words ghosted a bit, but over all I think it looks a bit vintage and cool looking.

Very nice! I like how the “H” looks, seems like it was intentional and part of the design. I didn’t realize it until you pointed it out, lol!

This is a great tutorial! I’ve made a few sublimation hat patches but had to glue them on because I don’t have a hat press. Do you find the hat form is a good size?

Yes I do, the hat form fit all my hats I tried to do. The only thing to be mindful of is the actual heat plate of the hat heat press. It’s smaller, which means you may need to press then move the hat heat press over to other slot and press to cover the front of the hat
