TIPS:Always run a test on the same type of fabric before engraving your final material. Different types of denim—like 100% cotton or 60/40 cotton/elastane blends—have varying fiber contents, which can affect your results. Testing helps you find the correct settings for each fabric.
You can start with the default settings provided by the manufacturer and adjust from there. Remember, you’re not engraving wood or stone—you’re working with fabric, which can burn easily if you do multiple passes or if your focal pin is too close to the material.
Also, don’t forget to rotate your design 180 degrees when placing your denim upside down (see attached pictures for reference).
My Nature Muse Butterflies Denim Shorts - I engraved butterflies to my Denim shorts recently, and my sister-in-law was inspired by my project. She asked me to engrave an eagle onto her jeans. “Why an eagle?” I asked. And here’s the short story she shared with me.
"When my dad passed away, I started seeing eagles in unusual places.
One of the most memorable moments happened on my way
to clear out his belongings. I was feeling sad,
driving down a city road I’d traveled for 41 years,
when an eagle suddenly flew above
my car and soared into the sky.
I was in awe. I knew it was a sign,
and I felt such comfort from that encounter.
Since then, I’ve had several other eagle sightings
—always right when I needed them most.
My dad wore Levi’s his whole life,
so I thought it was fitting to put an eagle
on my Levi’s in honor of him." - Jody
