Idea Studio wishlist

While working with Idea Studio, I keep coming up with improvement ideas that I’m jotting down as they come to mind. So I thought it would be a good idea to gather them in one place — both for myself and for anyone else in the community who’d like to contribute.

Some of these ideas or wishes may be easy to implement, while others could be more complex — that’s something for the development team to assess.

Please, feel free to use this thread to add and discuss your own thoughts!

I´d like to bump these old here:

  • Continued support for Crafter and legacy systems
Machine > Crafter vs iCraft support (I still cannot include links)

  • Snap system
    LOKLiK Software > IdeaStudio 2.4.0 | We heard you — here’s what’s new > Please add a snap-to-0,0 feature

Maybe a clickable ‘Snap to Grid’ option would also be interesting.

  • File handling improvements for MySpace
LOKLiK Software > Improvements in My space would be nice

And add some new I already have jotted down:

  • Better selection features:

Implementing selection behavior common to most office and design tools. I can drag to select grouped shapes, but if I want to select one far away that doesn’t fit within the drag box, I can’t hold Shift and click to add it.

Even drag select when two shapes are close is a bit buggy, as it also selects nearby shapes even when you´re not targeting them directly.

This also applies to layer selection. Ctrl+Click adds layers to the selection, but it would be great to batch select a range by clicking the first and Shift+clicking the last in a row:

  • Layer names:

The previous image also illustrates something else that would be wonderful: preserving SVG layer names. When working on complex projects outside Idea Studio, it’s really helpful to name layers for better organization. While we can rename layers inside IS, it’s a lot of work if there are many, and keeping the original names would be a huge time-saver.

  • Constrained displacement:

It would be very useful if holding Shift + drag allowed movement constrained to X or Y only — as in most design tools.

  • Adding distribute feature: aligning tool improvements:

It would help if align, center, and distribute (now called array) were grouped under a main tool, with each having its own subfeatures. This could be developed as extensively as in dedicated vector software, but at the very least, separating them (to avoid a long combo list) and adding the distribute feature would be amazing. This feels indispensable for a design tool focused on repeated elements — like making sticker sheets.

These are excellent tips :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I also wish they had more options for the editing of nodes and make it more zoomable to see the nodes better

Great suggestions

These are great suggestions. I would love all the universal short cuts to be the same in this software too.

Would also like a
flatten tool
Text on curve
Text on arc
Text on path
Warp tool - wavy, mesh, flag
Colour gradient tool
Offset tool to have a straight edge along side the curve also it’s a bit clunky at times
Rhinestone template
Eraser
Insert patterns into words and shapes (pattern fill)

Oh good ideas!

About the gradients, now it doesn’t even aloow them on imports.

thanks for this

In the old studio, we used to be able to add a Line on a shape and replace it’s color or make it transparent, same goes for the shape itself, we can make it a transparent shape with just the lines visibe

I forgot to add gradients and support for gradients in a svg.

I’m also adding to the list support for color profiles on printing. Support for patterns would be wonderful too, although that may be a little trickier.

A few more suggestions:

  • A function to move the tool carriage out of the way during cleaning. Working with the machine creates debris and stains — for example, when cutting granular materials or using the pen function. Keeping the machine clean is important, especially for the sensor to work properly, but currently there’s no way to shift the carriage aside to access that area easily.

  • More control over the task list. I can’t remember if we’re able to reorder tasks, but in any case, it would be great to have more control over chained tasks. For instance, I have my plotter in another room — I might want to complete one task, then switch materials or pens, and resume with the next task directly from the machine, knowing exactly what’s coming next.

  • As others have mentioned (like @timmytation), being able to see task details in the list would be great — but even better would be the ability to edit tasks already in the list. That way, if I’m running tests and want to tweak something slightly, I don’t need to create a new task from scratch. It also helps to remember what exactly I wanted to adjust.

  • It would also be really helpful to save tasks — for testing purposes or for recurring projects.

It would be nice if we could choose betwen point and comma decimals. I have all my design software configured in coma separared decimals and I have to edit that when I copy paste a size or a coordinate.

I was really happy with this new feature… I was about to post about it.

But then a doubt hit me:
Is this supposed to fix the issue where IS always imports in Flexmode, no matter what settings the SVG has? Or is it just for oversized images?
Sadly, no… IS still imports an A4 SVG in Flexmode, so it keeps distorting it.

So yeah, sadly I still have to export in Flexmode and manually resize it in IS. That’s just not right. We need to move the technical issues a bit higher on the priority list.

BTW… Version Details should be real, this is not the only thing that´s being touched

Or if this is not exactly a changelog, we should have access to one somewhere.

Hey, I noticed this problem, I asked customer service, and only large-sized images will be imported according to my settings;

I don´t know if it already exist, but I can find (at least in PC) a feature to show the assets from the library we mark as favourites. It could be very useful.

Anyone knows how to delete edit points (anchors)? If that’s not possible, it’s a must be implemented.

And anyways, this anchor UI is terrible, no matter how much you zoom in, it´s imposible to see where is a point and diffetenciate them from the curve helpers. Plus there´s no way you can see the line while selected.

The helpers don’t move along with the anchor, etc. That needs a deep revision.

Oh, and I forgot it. I NEEEED desperately Pen Tablet/Display support. The app recognizes it, but does barely nothing.

+1 on this.

Yes all of this, the points get added in weird spots, I don’t think I have been able to delete any of the nodes. I’ll test again when I jump on tomorrow

Dear, do you mean this?

Oh! I see. Thank you so much. I was expecting to find them under “Library”, not “My Space”. I thought those favourites were your favourite among your own assets. Seems a bit confussing.

Thank you so much @Kristin !!!

This has been my suggestion for quite some time now. Those nodes need fixing. Either they’re too big or we need to be able to zoom in more

Plus, i hope when we hit delete on a node, only that node gets deleted, not all the nodes :sob:
