Hi, @BrianPassaro! ![]()
Welcome to the community. I’m sorry you’re having issues with your iEngrave. You’ve come to the right place. Let’s see if we can get you some help. Maybe, @rinsky or @Cory_Barger will be able to guide you in the right direction and get your machine back to working properly.
Hi and welcome to the community @BrianPassaro!
Thanks for sharing what’s happening, and I’m sorry your machine started acting up after working well the first week. When a laser suddenly struggles to find home, stops mid‑engrave, and throws multiple error codes across IdeaStudio, LaserGRBL, and LightBurn, that usually points to a hardware or connection issue rather than software alone.
To help narrow this down, could you check a few things for us:
• Does the machine fully complete its homing cycle when you first power it on, or does it stall or hit the frame?
• Is the USB cable firmly connected on both ends, and have you tried a different USB port or cable?
• If you are using Wi-Fi connections, do you have a stable connections?
• Does the machine shut down completely, or does only the laser stop while the machine stays powered?
• Have you noticed any unusual noises during homing or the first few minutes of engraving?
If you can also share a screenshot of the error codes you’re seeing in LightBurn or LaserGRBL, that will help pinpoint whether it’s a communication drop, a firmware issue, or a failing board. Also, please let us know if your iEngrave is a Cover Edition or just a regular.
We’ll walk through this step by step with you until we get it sorted.
Side note: You can find your job logs in the Task List section when using the IdeaStudio desktop app, as shown below:
You can find some settings in this link: Crafter Notes | Little Tweaks for Better Engraving for your Lightburn and LaseGRBL that might help you.
Welcome to the community @BrianPassaro. We will certainly try to assist and help you get back up and running where it is possible. @rinsky had some great questions and provided several areas links that might be able to help. We will watch for your response and hopefully we will be able to offer some possible fixes.
Thank You for the quick response. i have been online with support. we have tried total resets and tests and they believe it may be a mechanical issue.
Thank you Corey also for the quick responses, yall are amazing
That’s great to hear that you’ve been in touch with support. Hopefully they’ll be able to replace your laser if it turns out to be a mechanical issue. Please keep us updated. Thanks!
a friendly reminder to all; when my laser froze up, twice the laser stayed lit and started to burn my projects, glad i was there for a quick stop by kill switch ALWAYS : monitor your burn ![]()
Oh no — that’s definitely alarming, and it really does sound like your unit may be faulty. Do you have the covered version or the open-frame laser? Just curious. Also, make sure you have a fire extinguisher in your workspace if you don’t already. I use an enclosed laser, so I’m not as worried, but I still keep a dedicated extinguisher in my craft room just in case. I hope you’re able to get a replacement quickly.
