Let’s Make a Stylish Pencil Case

I always need storage for pens and scissors and other stationary in my craft room. I like to keep my craft room organized, so it makes it easier to get crafting when I have free time to. This pencil case had a green zipper, so I went with it and grabbed some green HTV to match.

:scissors: Materials Used :scissors:

  • LOKLiK iCraft / Crafter
  • HTV
  • Standard Cutting Mat
  • Weeding Tool
  • Lint roller
  • Teflon Sheet
  • Heat Mat
  • LOKLiK Impress Mini 3 or heat source. You could use an Iron without the steam on.

:crayon: Step 1: Designing :crayon:

I downloaded the Pens and stuff SVG from Creative Fabrica. I uploaded it into LOKLiK Idea Studio.

I then resized it to fit my pencil case. I pressed make and used the HTVRONT HTV cut setting. Don’t forget to mirror your design when you are working with HTV. Also place HTV shiny side down on the standard mat to cut. Load your mat into your machine and start the cut.

:leftwards_hand: Step 2: Weeding out our design :rightwards_hand:

After my design finished cutting, I unloaded the mat from my LOKLiK iCraft. Then flipped the mat over and peeled the HTV away from the mat. With your weeding tool start weeding out the design from the corner. Go slowly and monitor your design to make sure you weed everything out. Anything stuck still on your carrier sheet will transfer to your blank and after that it’s very hard and messy to get it off. So, make sure you have weeded out your whole design.

:grinning: Step 3: Prepare your blank :grinning:

If your blank has big seams so it doesn’t lay flat, you can place a mini heat pressing pillow or just folded up wash cloth inside to make it flat.

Clean your blank with a lint roller. Cleaning your blank gives your HTV a better chance to stay stuck to your blank rather than sticking to loose fibers on your blank.

I set my heat press to 160 C / 320F for 15 seconds. I placed my blank on a heat mat. Then preheated my blank for about 5 – 10 seconds. I’m working with a canvas material, so I wasn’t worried about the heat from the press affecting the pencil case. Also canvas material retains moisture so doing this helped get rid of that moisture in the canvas material. If you are working with a more delicate material place a Teflon sheet over your blank to avoid damage.

Now position your design on your blank.

Then long press the power button to start the timer on the LOKLiK Impress Mini 3.

I start pressing my design by moving the heat press around making sure to go over all of my design. If you are using a normal house iron, put it on cotton setting with no steam. You may have to press a little longer with your iron compared to a heat press.

My HTVRont HTV is cool peel so I cool it down on my glass mat. Slowly peel away the carrier sheet monitoring your design. If any of your design lifts up press again for another 5 seconds and try again.

My design stuck beautifully. I placed the Teflon sheet back over my design and pressed for another 5 seconds as per instructions.

I’m super happy with how my pencil case turned out. A great way to tell if your HTV has stuck, is when you can see the fibers of your blank within the HTV. This means it has fused really well to the blank. I’m really happy with this result, I can see the fiber lines within the HTV.
