Paint and Sip - Kids Version (Adults can join too)

Project Overview:

With family gathering to celebrate Easter, let’s create a project that can inspire the kiddos and keep them entertained. My kiddos love having a painting station during events and this is the perfect addition to your Easter festivities.

Materials:

  • Cutting machine: LOKLiK iCraft
  • Sticky mat: LOKLiK standard grip
  • Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV): black
  • Templates: from LOKLiK Library
** Free Festival and Blessing Message SVG*
    ** Bunny Outline Easter Cutout*
** Free Pink Flower and Flash SVG*
  • HTVRONT Heat Press - I used the HTVRONT Auto Heat Press 2
  • 8in by 10in canvas - purchased at Michael’s

Design and Cutting Process:

  • Using the LOKLik IdeaStudio Library, search for the templates and select the + to add the template to the canvas.
  • Ungroup the flower and message SVG designs to allow us to pick and choice the components we will be using.

Creating Line Art from the SVGs:

  • Add an offset to the words Happy and Easter. For this project I used an offset of 3mm.

  • Select the offset and the word and use the “combine” tab and select “subtract”. This will create the lines used to create the templates for the paint canvas.
  • Create an internal offset for the flowers as well as the bunny. I decided on an internal offset as the lines of the original design were thick. The lines we are creating in this project should be thin to allow the painter to paint the areas instead of having so much HTV on the canvas.

Here is a side by side comparison of the new line (left) versus the original design (right)

Arranging the Design:

  • Keeping your canvas size in mind, place the “Happy”, “Easter”, the bunny and flowers on you canvas. Resize each piece as needed.

Great job! Now you have the designs ready to cut.

  • Send the entire design to cut.

IMPORTANT TIP: MAKE SURE YOU PRESS ON THE MIRROR BUTTON SINCE WE ARE USING HTV. When placing the HTV on the mat, make sure that the glossy/shiny side is facing down, and the matte side is facing up.

** Cut Settings**
** Material Type: Pure Heat Transfer Vinyl
**Force: 6.4
**Speed: 5
**Passes: 1

Adding the HTV to the canvas

  • Begin by weeding out all of the extra HTV. Keep in mind that you are removing the large areas and keeping the thin lines. Make sure to take your time and work with a weeding tool or tweezers to help.

  • Once you have removed the extra HTV, turn on your heat press and adjust the heat settings. For this particular HTV and canvas, I used the temperature of 325 degrees F, for 15 seconds, and a pressure of 150lbs.
  • Place the HTV on the canvas, the plastic sheet will be on the top and the matte HTV will be place on the canvas.
  • Press the HTV onto the canvas with a Teflon sheet between the canvas and heat press.

IMPORTANT TIP: Insert a heat proof mat or item in the hallow space between the canvas center and the heat press. This would have helped my design adhere to the canvas much better.

  • Once the heat press is done, slide the canvas out and wait for the canvas to cool, you will want to peel the plastic sheet once cooled.
  • I used a paper roller to press the HTV onto the canvas as it cooled.

WONDERFUL!!! You have a beautiful craft for the kids to paint on Easter. They will have a blast painting and you will have a keepsake.

Here is a link to the video for this tutorial. I know some crafters can follow along better by video, hope it helps!
