Screenprinting prep using iCraft!

Project Overview:

I officially begin teaching Zumba classes tomorrow and I was so excited to start my classes that I created these lovely sweat towels and cooling towels for my students. We have such a great workout that these are definitely needed after.

Materials:

  • Cutting machine: iCraft
  • HTVRONT Auto Heat Press 2
  • Teflon sheet
  • Design: Logo designed on another program
  • Permanent Vinyl or HTV vinyl
  • Screen Print frame, mesh, sponge
  • Screen Printing Fabric paint: I used Speedball for this project

Process:

  • Upload the design to IdeaStudio.
  • Resize the design to fit within the frame and the material you are screen printing.
  • Add a rectangle or square around your design as you will be weeding out the design rather than the extra material around the design.
  • Send the design to cut using the recommended settings in IdeaStudio.
  • If you are using permanent vinyl, make sure you mirror your design when selecting the cut settings. If you are using HTV vinyl, leave the design as is without sending it as a mirror image. You will place the HTV vinyl with the shiny side down, matte side up when sending to cut.
  • Weed the vinyl to remove the design, this is the opposite of what you would normally do with other projects. We will be screen printing with paint on the weeded areas.
  • If you are using permanent vinyl, use transfer tape to transfer the design to the screen printing frame.

  • If you are using HTV vinyl, preheat your HTVRONT Auto Heat Press 2 to 270 degree F, 50lb pressure and set the timer for 10 seconds.
  • Place the HTV vinyl on the mesh (removed from the frame) and send to press.
  • Allow for the HTV vinyl to cool before peeling carefully to avoid distorting the design.

  • Setup your print screen frame on your base.
  • Add the material under the frame and screen print as directly on the screen printing kits.

  • Seal the screen print paint by using the HTVRONT Heat Press 2 with the setting of 320 degrees F, 150 lbs and 40 seconds. Place the teflon sheet between the towel and the heat press.

Wonderful! Now we have our custom towels ready to shake it and sweat at Zumba.

Wow this is really great. I haven’t done screenprinting yet but you made it look so easy. Good luck with your class tomorrow

Thanks :purple_heart: I hope it helps. The actual screen/frame/base wasn’t too bulky which was helpful during the project. The most difficult part was finding room to lay out 50 towels while they air dryed before pressing.

Yes give it a try. This was actually my first time, I borrowed my sister’s frame, bought the mesh and paints and made my own base from scrap wood I had. So much fun thru the process. I did prefer using the HTV vinyl for the screen as it was easier to weed out that the permanent vinyl. But both options work

That would be my problem to, I’d have to lay them on the roof to dry

Lol  it sure is a hard decision. I’d start on one that you have all the supplies for. Then just go for it, itll be fun!

I saw in videos that it can be used but I didnt use that method. I believe some methods have a better result making sure they are longer lastings. I am sorry I am not an expert to guide you more.
