It’s Tuesday again—time for a little community chat!
Let’s be honest—every crafter has had that moment.
From the classic “forgot to mirror before cutting” to the occasional glue-related disaster… We’ve all had our share of “oops” moments—and honestly, those are often the ones we learn the most from.
So this week we’re asking:
What’s a memorable crafting mistake you’ve made—and what did it teach you?
Share your story in the comments—we promise this is a judgment-free zone (and probably a very relatable one lol).
We’ll randomly pick 3 fun replies from the comments next Tuesday—each will receive 100 points as a little treat.
The mistake I made was not knowing how to choose the correct settings for the paper I was using.
After I finished printing everything and it was assembled, I realized that the color was sticking to my fingers, and the black was even more so. When something happened to it, the color would disappear. The bad thing was that I didn’t have time to find the correct settings, so I had to hand it in like that. The good thing about all this was that it was for my son’s class, so it wasn’t a request.
Around 1 or 2 in the morning, caught up in the excitement of crafting custom New Year’s t-shirts using sublimation, I was on a creative roll—pressing, feeling pretty proud of my late-night hustle. It wasn’t until I peeled back the sheet and held up the shirt that I realized… the design was upside down. I just stood there, half horrified, half hysterical, staring at my perfectly pressed mistake. In that moment, all I could do was laugh—because honestly, what’s more on brand for a New Year than starting with a good-natured mess and a story I’ll never forget?
It taught me that mistakes happen - especially when you are tired and staying up so late doing crafts.
My Oops Moment happened currently in my Sewing Project - Spring Turtle Basket. I didn’t realize that I picked a wrong pattern and cut my jeans and fusible fleece. If you watched my video tutorial in my Youtube Channel, there are many pieces involved to make the basket. There are patterns for inner and outer panels. I didn’t mixed it up but I missed to read it I found my mistakes when I did the sewing part. Both inner and outer panels were not lining up perfectly. I did verify it when I went to review my RAW Video. I cut both light and dark fabrics with the outer pattern (the lighter jeans should be cut using inner pattern, so the fusible fleece too!). Not only redoing my cutting process and sewing process but I need to roll my camera again and edit it as there was no mistake at all! MAGIC!!
The lesson here was: THINK TWICE, CUT ONCE! This is a rule of thumb that I learned from my Mom but sometimes, I forgot!
One of the Oops moment I had was when I cut HTV then I forgot to feed the mat first before starting the task, so what happen was instead of a perfect cut, since the mat was not feed first to the machine before starting the task. The whole part on the top was not cut because it cut the upper part of the mat instead of the HTV. I had to start all over again.
Myost common oops moments when someone orders somthing with a colour other thank gold, while 99. 9 percent of my orders are in gold which is now my least favourite color when someone orders a cake topper for example in silver I end up making it in gold I even did a wedding sign in gold Instead of silver but thanks God the customer loved it so much in gold and kept it that way it would have costed me about 80€
my latest ooops moment happened today. I was trying to rush some projects and meet some deadlines… as a result I broke my machine I get anxious most of the time and overwhelmed with my personal work that it all just comes crashing.
thankfully I can replace the part that I broke tomorrow and can continue with my craft.
I have learned to take a pause at times and not rush things.
I had a surreal squence of oops moments last week while trying to revive a vintage uni-ball signo fluor gel ball pen that is no longer produced.
The funniest and more stunning one was when the I heated its tip with a lighter and the parts exploded. Best of all is that the tiny ball separated from the tip cone and I could clean it thoroughly.
Did I get to revive it? Nop. As I said, it was a sequence of surreal oops moments.
Is my house full of fluor debris? Yes.
I’m drying the ink to make neon watercolor and I,ve learned loads about ball pens.
My most recent whoops was I was sublimating a mug for my friends birthday gift. I drew the design and made a cute poem for the other side. I printed them both out and I said I’ll quickly tape these on and put it in the press and start dinner. Well mug finished, it looked amazing but the lovely words were all upside down hahahaha. So, I quickly made her another one before she came for dinner lol. She has both mugs and loves them.
My “oops moment” happened this past Tuesday. Someone messaged me about a rush order for Friday—an invitation for their 21st birthday party. They’d already sent their details, but the pictures were to be emailed separately. I waited two days for the pictures, finally asking if they’d been sent. They said they had, last Tuesday. I checked my inbox—nothing. Then I checked my spam folder, and there they were, sent at 10 pm. My reaction? “Oops!” I’d already spent six hours straight laying out and printing the invitation. The lesson? ALWAYS check your spam folder!
Thanks to everyone who shared their “oops” moments last week—we loved reading all the relatable (and sometimes hilarious) stories
100 points have been sent to @misshaven@rinsky@Madebyyirda this round
Hope it adds a little extra spark to your next project!
